Here at Serco, we are seeking a talented media and external affairs manager to lead our media and external communications initiatives to promote the work of Serco and defend our position. Reporting to the Communications and Marketing Director, you will collaborate with colleagues in North America, Europe, the UK, Middle East & Asia Pacific to elevate our brand and position Serco as a well-respected and trusted organisation.
Sitting at the centre of the global business, you will need to be proactive in generating captivating and innovative stories and content as well as having excellent media skills and judgement. You will naturally bring creativity into your work and be proactive in spotting and creating opportunities with media, on social media and with stakeholders.
As part of this you’ll:
- Media Relations: Identify and develop proactive media stories and use your media handling skills to promote and defend Serco reactively. Use your skills to develop strong relationship with key journalists.
- Social Media: Contribute to our social media strategy, identify emerging opportunities and ensuring our use of social channels maximises our reach and goals.
- Strategic Communication: Develop and execute creative external communication plans in partnership with senior leaders, providing handling advice as necessary.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Form, maintain and enhance relationships with key external stakeholders and use these relationships to convey key messages and improve awareness and perceptions.
- Content Creation: Create captivating content across various channels, from press releases to social media.
- Storytelling: Source and share impactful stories and case studies from across the organisation to showcase our values and achievements.
- Collaboration: Support other communications teams to align internal and external communications efforts for maximum impact.
- Evaluation & Rebuttal: Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of communication campaigns and strive to exceed engagement targets, rebut inaccurate or misleading coverage.
What you’ll need to do the role:
- Dynamic Communicator: Exceptional written and communication skills with a talent for storytelling.
- Media Relations: Proven track record forging strong relationships with the media and the ability to anticipate media angles.
- Judgement: Strong political nous, ability to offer considered advice and effective handling solutions.
- Relationship Building: Ability to engage successfully with stakeholders, influence their thinking and enhance the status of Serco.
- Digital Savvy: Proficiency in leveraging social media channels and other digital platforms to convey key messages and showcase delivery.
- Collaborative Spirit: Ability to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively across departments and levels.
- Strategic Thinker: Understanding of business strategy and how external communications can contribute to organisational goals.
- Creative Mindset: Ability to think outside the box and distil complex information into engaging messages.
