This is an exciting opportunity to join the team in the newly founded Directorate of General Internal Medicine providing inpatient care for acute general medical admissions on the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital site. The job will predominantly be to provide Consultant level inpatient ward cover of the General Internal Medicine wards though there may be opportunity for subspecialist interest OPD activity.



The Consultant in General Internal Medicine will provide general medical care on one of the GIM wards at the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital site. The ward will have 22-25 beds and cross cover may be required to support colleagues annual leave. The ward cover will be supported across the directorate by 2 Specialty Doctors, a Senior Clinical Fellow and Junior Clinical Fellows

The Division of Medicine and Emergency Care is implementing an optimisation plan for the inpatient medical wards to improve patient care, experience and safety with the aim to have the right patients on the right wards for their medical needs. The established medical directorates of Acute Medicine, Cardiology, Digestive Diseases, Metabolic Medicine, Medicine for Older People and Respiratory Medicine all have inpatient wards and the newly established General Internal Medicine wards will add to the bed base with 2 additional GIM wards initially and a 3rdward has also been funded for 6 months of the year to manage winter pressures.

New Consultants will be supported on a consultant leadership programme.





The post holder will work 10 programmed activities for East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust including weekend cover 1 in 7. It is anticipated that the appointee will join the overnight on call rota after appointment. Please see the attached indicative job plan for further details. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Junior Clinical Fellow (FY2-CT1) to work as part of the General Surgical team at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, based at the Royal Blackburn Hospital site. This post is fixed term for 24 months starting in August 2024.

The post holder will assist in providing a clinical service in elective and emergency General Surgery to the population of East Lancashire and the adjoining areas.

The post holder will be expected to provide a patient centred service, respecting the privacy, dignity and choice of individual patients.

These posts are ideal for candidates who have completed Foundation training or equivalent and are seeking further surgical training, working closely with the STs/Senior Clinical Fellows and under the supervision of the Consultants.

The roles include out of hours work on the on call rota which is a full shift system. It covers General Surgery emergencies but there is also some cross-cover with Vascular, Urology and ENT at Junior Clinical Fellow level as part of the Surgical Out of Hours Service (SOS).

The roles are primarily ward based however include the opportunity to assist in theatres along with general and specialist out-patient clinics.

1. Deliver high quality care with the help of the existing surgical team.

2. Share in administrative duties allocated by mutual agreement within the Directorate.

3. Participate in the weekly on-call system of care under the EWTD guidelines.

4. Observe and comply with clinical and non-clinical policies and procedures (including local and national employment and personnel policies) agreed with employees and management.

5. Closely involved in clinical audit and other clinical governance issues.

6. Undertake research in the department.

7. Provide support for junior colleagues in the department including FY1s and Medical Students

About The Role

To carry out all cleaning duties and host duties as required by your Line Manager and in accordance with the work schedule for your area. You will perform these duties in a professional manner and strive to exceed customer expectations, never over promising or under delivering. You will be working Monday to Friday, 10:15 to 18:15, 37.5 hours per week, on a permanent, full-time basis. Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• To ensure that all cleaning tasks are carried out in accordance with NHS 2021 Cleaning standards and OCS policy and process as per your training.
• Dusting low & high, vacuuming & washing down all areas
• Cleaning of any glass partitions
• Spot cleaning upholstery, curtains & carpets
• Cleaning of offices
• Cleaning of Toilets, Bathrooms, Shower Rooms & Basins
• Restocking of all soaps, handtowels & toilet paper
• Emptying & cleaning of waste bins
• Cleaning of dining rooms, tables & chairs
• Cleaning of Clinical areas
• Cleaning of therapy rooms
• Cleaning of corridors
• Cleaning of bedrooms (where applicable)
• To assist in the removal & re-hanging of Curtains
• To undertake any help desk task upon instruction from your Line Manager
• Dusting low & high, vacuuming & washing down all areas
• Cleaning of any glass partitions
• Spot cleaning upholstery, curtains & carpets
• Cleaning of Clinical areas (Surgery / Dental/ Chiropody etc.) Cleaning of offices
• Cleaning of Toilets, Bathrooms & Basins
• Restocking of all soaps, handtowels & toilet paper
• Emptying & cleaning of waste bins
• Cleaning of corridors
• Cleaning of the kitchen & all equipment within the area
• Arranging for trust staff to clear cupboard floors allowing cleaning
• Where agreed litter picking & sweeping of external areas
• Assisting inpatient feeding if required (DeVitre House)

Requirements:

• Must be DBS checked with first 12 weeks of employment and must undertake rechecks every 3 years.
• Uniform to be worn at all times whilst at work.
• IPC requirements and trust policies must be followed at all time.
• Cleaning experience within a healthcare environment desired but not essential as full training will be provided.
• The ability to be able to communicate effectively in English.
• Ensure personal appearance and presentation including uniform is maintained at a high standard at all times.
• High standards of personal hygiene are expected and required at all times.

Main Duties include:

• Daily cleaning of all staff and public washroom areas.
• Replenishment of consumables within all staff and public washrooms.
• Daily cleaning of all office, custody and public areas as directed.
• Regular cleaning of the archive store, basement area.
• Work within good Health and Safety practices including COSHH and risk assessment guidelines.
• Removal of cleaning waste to bin storage area as required.
