The post is not approved for basic or higher surgical training but will provide ample training opportunities and will suit a senior trainee committed to a Surgical career or seeking additional experience of General surgery at registrar level. Previous NHS experience is essential for this role. There is also scope for training and working closely with the Colorectal Surgery team including clinic and theatre and on-calls.

Clinical Governance & Audit

There is a robust clinical governance programme with a monthly morbidity and mortality meeting in general surgery. The post-holders are also expected partake in at least one audit project related to either general surgery. There is excellent support for this through the audit unit.

Study, Training and Teaching

Appointees will be expected to have completed foundation year training and embarked on or have passed the MRCS (or equivalent) examination, or to have at least completed the training requirements for the same. These posts DO NOT carry Deanery accreditation for the purposes of Surgical Training, though it is expected that they will provide training that will be of value to trainee surgeons.

Research

Extensive research facilities exist at Barts Health NHS Trust and research will be actively encouraged within the department and in conjunction with other departments of the hospital where there is a wide range of research activity. There is ample time on the rota for fellows to complete a significant research project during the appointment.

Our Assistant Care Managers have a really supportive working environment and inductions are well planned with help from across the team. There are 25 members in the Worthing Hospital Social Work Team so whether it's in person, on the phone or even in the chat group there is always someone on hand to help.

You will be working across the Acute ward, A&E, Community Hospitals, and assessing people in their own homes; providing advice and guidance to those people who access or need the service.. As well as assessing you will be completing plans, implementing and monitoring care packages, although there is a focus on short term support you will also be carrying out reviews for long term support. To be successful in this role you will need to use your initiative and demonstrate personal resilience as you could have exposure to challenging behaviours from people who access or need the service.

An important part of the role is accurate records of all of the amazing work you have undertaken, and produce reports and correspondence for a variety of audiences including meetings, conferences, court, panels and other agencies.

You will receive regular, supportive and reflective supervision from senior social work colleagues, but you will also need to use your own initiative where appropriate. There would be some requirement to work flexibly, out of office hours to assist customers, carers and families and you will be required to travel throughout the county including locations that are not always easily accessible by public transport.

We are looking for a Specialist Doctor to further develop our service. This is a new post and will be offered on 6 months fixed term, with the opportunity to further extend. Key duties will include independent operating lists, outpatient clinics, advice and guidance to General Practitioners via e-Referral Service and provide in-patient care. You are likely to rotate between consultants within the Unit on a six monthly basis. The on call commitment is one in eight on a New Deal compliant conventional rota. The Department has operated a Surgeon of the Week system of emergency cover since early in 2003.
