We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Colorectal and Pelvic Floor consultant.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and well-established team consisting of eight consultants at Royal London Hospital, Bart’s Health NHS Trust.
The successful applicant will be responsible for providing general in-patient and outpatient adult care, including out-of- hours on-call commitment.
The post includes 10 PA of activity/40 hours per week

• With the agreement of the Clinical Lead and Clinical Service Group Director, development of his/her own interests and sub-specialties within the specialty, in line with business planning principles and commissioners’ approval, including active participation in research programmes.

• Corporate and individual responsibility for the professional management of doctors in training.

• When on leave or working away from the Royal London main hospital site patient cover will be facilitated by the colorectal service and General Surgery department.

• Periods of leave should be spread across the spectrum of job planned activity.

We are looking for two enthusiastic members to join our dynamic team providing acute general internal medicine services to the people of Newham. This full-time fixed term IMT 1-2 (SHO) equivalent post will be available from January 2023 for 12 months in the first instance.
This is an exciting opportunity within our Acute Ambulatory Care department at Newham University Hospital, a 52 bedded unit which will offer care for the initial 48 hours of admission. The unit will include facility for 8 monitored beds.

The successful applicant will contribute to the acute medical care for the hospital which serves London Borough of Newham with a catchment population of 260,000. They will generally be based on the ward delivering the daily care of medical inpatients on the unit, with the support of the Speciality consultant, Specialist Registrar and Foundation trainees. They will also be expected to contribute to the hospital on call rota where they will be responsible for the clerking, assessment and management of patients referred to Acute Medicine. The successful applicants will also have the opportunity to work within ambulatory care working within a supported clinic environment. Locum Consultant Physician in Acute or General Medicine with the option of a Specialty Interest

Newham University Hospital, part of the Barts Health NHS Trust Group is looking for 2 WTE as full or part time Consultant Physicians in Acute and General Medicine to fulfil a 12-month fixed term post.

You would be joining a friendly and growing team Consultant Physicians with a variety of Internal Medicine backgrounds. The post holder will have the option of working fully in Acute Medicine or in up to a 50:50 split with a second medical specialty. A specialty interest is not essential and this post is suitable for acute physicians.

A substantive post is going to be advertised within the next few months in addition to this fixed term locum post and this offers an exciting opportunity to join a team that has already doubled in numbers (Consultants in Acute Medicine) in the last 12 months. Further expansion is supporting the development of new models of working and services that support patients attending the hospital and within the local community. The service includes Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) service 9-5pm Mon-Friday and an 18-bedded Acute Medical ward (Stratford ward). The medical records are electronic including use of electronic dashboards to support coordination of the multidisciplinary team and the Acute Medicine ward team meets three times a day.

Clinical Governance & Audit

There is a robust clinical governance programme with a monthly morbidity and mortality meeting in general surgery. The post-holders are also expected partake in at least one audit project related to either general surgery. There is excellent support for this through the audit unit.

Study, Training and Teaching

Appointees will be expected to have completed foundation year training and embarked on or have passed the MRCS (or equivalent) examination, or to have at least completed the training requirements for the same. These posts DO NOT carry Deanery accreditation for the purposes of Surgical Training, though it is expected that they will provide training that will be of value to trainee surgeons.

Research

Extensive research facilities exist at Barts Health NHS Trust and research will be actively encouraged within the department and in conjunction with other departments of the hospital where there is a wide range of research activity. There is ample time on the rota for fellows to complete a significant research project during the appointment.

12 months Fixed Term, General Medicine & Gastroenterology

We are looking for an enthusiastic junior doctor to join our dynamic team providing acute and inpatient general internal medicine, to the residents on Newham, east London. This full-time locum FY2+ equivalent/SHO post will be available from10September 2024 – 11 September 2025. The doctor will be based on the wards delivering daily care of medical inpatients under the team. They will also be looking after patients admitted with specific gastroenterology or liver conditions. The doctor will be part of a larger team consisting of 7 Gastroenterology Consultants, 4 Specialist Registrars, 2 Senior House Officers (IMT SHOs), 1 FY2 SHO, and 3 Foundation 1 (FY1) trainees. They will be expected to contribute to the hospital on call rota, where they will be responsible for the clerking, assessment and management of patients referred to Acute Medicine. The successful applicant will be affiliated with the Gastroenterology department offering inpatient medical care on a ward-based system. They can also see patients in a weekly consultant delivered Gastroenterology and Hepatology Clinics.

Newham in Plaistow is a busy district hospital and part of Barts Health NHS Trust, which is the largest trust in the NHS. It was created on 1 April 2012 by bringing together three trusts: Barts and The London NHS Trust, Newham University Hospital NHS Trust and Whipps Cross University Hospital NHS Trust. The London Borough of Newham serves a population of over 348,000. It has one of the youngest and most ethnically diverse populations in the country.



Although the hospital is relatively small, it has a high turnover of patients and there is a lot of pathology. There is a dedicated bi-weekly ascites clinic which is managed by junior doctors (but consultant supervised), where they learn to perform paracentesis. If the successful candidate would like to learn how to endoscope, then there is a fully functional Symbionix endoscopy simulator that they can be trained. In addition, there are upper GI cancer and hepatobiliary, viral hepatitis and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) MDT meetings, which the junior doctors can attend. In addition, the post holder will be allocated a clinical and educational supervisor and take part in audit and quality improvement projects. If they would like to pursue a career in medicine, then we can help them accomplish all the competencies for the alternate certificate for IMT training.

ERCP is now based at the Royal London Hospital site. We have a reputation for providing excellent endoscopic training and this post is highly sought after by gastroenterology trainees on the NCEL training program. The successful candidate would be expected to participate in the out of hours’ endoscopy and general medical on call rota and training of junior staff.
