The incumbent processes all incoming requests to the facility for Release of Information (ROI) along with information required by the VA Regional Office through the Automated Medical Information Exchange (AMIE).

• Processes medical legal releases of information to attorneys and courts pertaining to Tort Feasor (Third Party Liability), Workman's Compensation, Labor and Industries and subpoenas.
• Screens and follows through on all incoming telephone calls from attorneys and insurance representatives regarding legal cases and requests under the Privacy Act, referring only problem cases to the Supervisor.
• Reviews and analyzes written and telephone requests to ascertain type of case to be developed.
• Develops and prepares cases for release to Regional Counsel and other appropriate parties.
• Contacts attorneys when necessary to obtain additional information to develop the case.
• Maintains files for all Privacy Act requests and subpoena cases for all cases being developed, processed or complete.
• Compiles tort cases for the Regional Office. This requires extensive investigations to track down x-rays and health records to compile a complete health record. Contacts all VA's to have them make a CD of all of the photocopied/printed/written to electronic media information, including digital x-rays.
• All paper health records are arranged in date order, numbered and several exact copies made for the Regional Office.
• All computer health records are downloaded to a CD including documents in VistA Imaging. For cases going to trial, this may include additional updates and coordination with the US Attorney's Office.
• Interviews veterans and insurance agents requesting information for Third Party Liability, Workman's Compensation, and Privacy Act cases for referral to Medical Cost Recovery and/or the Regional Counsel's Office.
• Evaluates validity of each request. Determines which information is to be released in compliance with existing laws (Privacy Act of 1974, Freedom of Information Act, and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act).
• Ensures that proper authorization exists before release is made. Processes the request to the requesting agency or individual.
• Inputs all requests into the ROI computer package for logging and tracking of these requests.
• Receives and directs callers and visitors. Receives and/or gives out forms and assists visitors and/or callers with the completion of forms or documents.
• Responds to questions from patients concerning services. Provides advisory and technical assistance to patients, administrative staff and professional staff regarding release of information.

The purpose of the position is to serve as an inspector of surface maintenance vehicles and equipment to ensure that physical and operating characteristics are within acceptable standards and specifications. Duties involve complex inspection work, requiring a wide variety of inspection processes and techniques, at remote worksites or field installations where a supervisor is not readily available. In these situations, work is performed very independently and decisions require a wide range of subjective judgments.

The Surgical Technician performs the following major duties:

Functions as a Primary Scrub Person

1. Functions as a primary scrub person responsible for handling instruments, supplies, and equipment during all surgical procedures such as: open heart, thoracic, major vascular, neurosurgery, microsurgery, total joint replacement, renal transplant, and robotic surgery.
2. Sets up sterile field with all required items for each procedure such as air-powered equipment, fiber optic equipment, laparoscopic equipment, microscopes, lasers, arthroscopy equipment, urologic equipment, recording devices, and other operation room supplies and equipment.
3. Plans and discusses each procedure with surgical professionals and assures that all supplies and equipment are available prior to the surgical procedure.
4. Prepares, organizes, and maintains highly complex sterile surgical setups.
5. Observes and responds to each stage of the surgical procedure and anticipates the needs of the surgeon by maintaining a high level of concentration for extended periods of time.
6. Utilizes universal precautions and follows all Infection Control Policies and procedures when handling specimens, supplies, and equipment.
7. Assists the team members with care of patient, i.e., positioning, prepping, and obtaining supplies.
8. Handles all specimens appropriately.
9. In conjunction with the circulating Registered Nurse (RN), performs sponge and instruments counts to verify accuracy.

This position is located in a Federal Bureau of Prisons federal correctional facility, in the Special Investigative Services Office.

Serves as an assistant to the Special Investigative Agent (SIA)/Special Investigative Supervisor (SIS) and is responsible for providing assistance during investigations, developing reports, preparing correspondence, maintaining evidence, and computer support.

Assists the SIA/SIS in conducting investigations of inmate violations of BOP prohibited acts of various severity levels, such as assaults, introduction of contraband or narcotics, possession of money or currency, communicating gang affiliation and/or participating in gang activities, and other prohibited activities. Investigations can range in length from several hours to weeks or months depending on severity.

Along with all other correctional institution employees, the Special Investigative Services Technician is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. Pharmacy technicians at this grade level are nationally certified by PTCB or ExCPT and can work autonomously, using independent judgement to perform a full range of duties. • Accurately interpret, fills, and prepares prescriptions with appropriate medications and or medical supplies for pharmacist verification.
• Maintains work areas in a clean and orderly condition by assuring that all stock and equipment are in assigned places and all shelves and counters are free of dust and debris in order to create optimal work areas.
• Assures drugs and supplies are appropriately stored and secured according to USP and VA guidelines, including the storage of high-risk, look a-like sound a-like, hazardous, controlled substances, and refrigerated items.

• Operates and maintains complicated pharmacy equipment including robotic dispensing, automated counting, and barcode re-labeling equipment. • Performs monthly inspections to assigned areas to ensure proper storage of medications and soon to expired drugs are removed. Completes inspection reports in compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Monitors temperature of Pharmacy refrigerators/freezers and maintains temperature logs as necessary.
• Assists narcotic inspectors with the inventory and accountability inspections.
