Job Overview

The Central Service / Processing Technician is responsible for maintaining high standards for decontamination assembly, inspecting, wrapping, and sterilization of surgical instruments and medical equipment for Surgical Services and all Ancillary departments. This includes working in conjunction with the OR staff to provide timely sterile products, trays and case carts where applicable. The Central Service / Processing Technician maintains consistency and continuous workflow between the OR and Central Processing while practicing excellent customer service.

Major Responsibilities:
1. Maintain quality control by monitoring, reading, documenting, and interpreting, all parameters for all types of sterilizers to insure proper function. (Steam, ETO, Glutaraldehyde, and Steris)
2. Maintain system and department competencies by attending department meetings, in-services, and annual updates.
3. Maintain quality assurance by correctly utilizing biological monitoring applicable sterilization event.
4. Demonstrate accountability by providing high quality customer service, through communication and service to the surgical staff and peers.
5. Inspect all instruments and reusable items visually and manually. Isolate all items needing repair.
6. Review departmental policies and procedures by reviewing the manuals.
7. Order and puts away supplies and linens upon request as needed. Pick surgical case carts by following established Surgeons Preference Cards or Procedural Pick list/requisition.
8. Perform correct and appropriate data entry, understand and utilize computers for generating data and requisitioning goods.
9. Answer phone in professional, helpful manner by maintaining communication skills appropriate in a professional setting.
10. Dispose of all biohazard products per departmental procedures.
11. Assist with development or modifications in all supply system, instrumentation, and services as needed.
12. Rotate assignments through sterilization, decontamination, assembly, case carts and dispatch.
13. Work with high-level disinfectants and cleaning solutions and read and interpret appropriate MSDS accordingly.

Position Overview:

This position (0.92 FTE) is the co-manager of the Chemistry stockroom, who broadly oversees the department’s teaching and research laboratories, and trains, supervises, and evaluates student employees. • Assist the Lab Manager in overseeing the chemical stockroom, developing and implementing strategies for maintaining the inventory, purchasing equipment and chemicals, and supporting safe practices in the Chemistry Department laboratories.
• With the Lab Manager, share responsibility for preparing Chemistry Department teaching laboratories, including consulting and strategizing with faculty before the term to prepare experiments, preparing and set out reagents, glassware, and equipment for use in laboratory, coordinating with faculty and the Chemical Hygiene Officer (CHO) to develop protocols for waste collection and removal, and troubleshooting any problems that arise during the laboratory meeting. This work is performed with support from Chemistry Department student employees.
• Instruct, supervise and evaluate student stockroom employees.
• Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot instruments used for teaching laboratory experiments.
• Assume the Lab Manager’s duties during periods of the Lab Manager’s absence.

Job Summary: The Pharmacy Technician retrieves, packages and labels oral solid, liquid, topical, rectal, injectable and premixed IV medications, phone calls, computer communications, medication delivery, automated dispensing cabinet (ADC) stocking, unit dose packaging, medication storage area inspection and customer service. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Delivers medication ensuring it is secured until delivered to the requesting care giver or loaded into the appropriate ADC. Ensures that all medication is verified by a pharmacist prior to its delivery. Returns medication to the pharmacy as needed ensuring it is secure until returned to stock or placed in the appropriate waste stream container. Stocks ADC with both standard and patient specific medications using bar code technology when applicable ensuring accuracy. Stocks various medication kits, boxes and trays used throughout the hospital prior to final verification by a pharmacist. Uses bar code technology whenever it is designed into a pharmacy process and reports bar code failures to their immediate supervisor. Inspects medication storage areas as assigned. Answers incoming calls in a timely manner providing assistance when possible or directing the caller to the appropriate pharmacy staff member. Monitors incoming computer messages and takes appropriate action when possible or directs message to the appropriate pharmacy staff member. Retrieves and labels prepackaged oral solid, liquid, rectal, inhalation, topical, injectable, and premixed IV medications using bar code technology when applicable ensuring accuracy. Based on clinical ladder guidelines performs responsibilities related to sterile and hazardous compounding under the direct supervision of a pharmacist and per department policy; also performs non-sterile compounding per department policy.

Job Description:

Principle Responsibilities

• Provides maintenance and repairs to building structures, building systems, and equipment contained therein.
