The incumbent will clean, decontaminate, and reprocess flexible and rigid endoscopes according to IFU. The Facilities Manager is a key role accountable for the management of total facilities services across our two hospices and our retail sites. They will be accountable for the fabric of the hospice buildings and tangible assets, including short, medium and long term planned preventative maintenance, contract and contractor management, security and energy sustainability. They will be the nominated competent person ensuring health and safety legislative and policy compliance. A key focus of the position is to deliver safety excellence, drive operational efficiencies and provide management information to the Executive Management Team. The Facilities Manager leads the development of a high-performing team of technical employees, who can provide exceptional levels of customer service across all of the Charity work locations. This includes embedding a culture of efficiency and collaboration that aligns to the Charitys values. Facilities Develop and implement a programme of planned maintenance for all of the Charity locations, including retail stores, to ensure that the premises and the equipment within are fit for purpose, maintained in a serviceable condition, meet relevant safety standards and are in good working order. Develop a charity wide asset register to demonstrate condition, life cycles and service intervals to be used to drive facilities budgeting and forecasting. The Integrated Decontamination Team is responsible for ensuring the provision of appropriately decontaminated and quality assured surgical, endoscopic, and other sterile instruments to the Trust’s Theatre complexes, endoscope suites, outpatient’s departments, and other user locations.

Team the Integrated Decontamination Team Assistant may be required (with suitable notice) to work shifts at either of the sub teams for the Receipt and Distribution units. Shifts are Monday-Friday 07.00-15.00 and 13.00-21.00 some weekend working.

• To receive, return and distribute Sterile and contaminated re-usable surgical instruments to and from clinical departments throughout the Trust.
• To carry out robust quality checking of all items after delivery from external supplier and prior to release into Trust Sterile Storerooms.
• Immediately report any non-conformance, including but not limited to torn or damaged sterile instrument packs.
• Carry out both electronic or manual tracking and record keeping as required to ensure detailed traceability.
• Carry out efficient stock rotation to minimise time expiry waste of sterile trays and packs.
• To assist and advise in the availability of Surgical Instruments needed for all Trust end users including making available and delivery from Trust storage the surgical instruments required for operating/Procedure lists in advance and support surgical instrument repair/replacements as required.
• Actively participate in team meetings with the Head of the Integrated Decontamination Team, IDT Coordinators or Clinical staff as required.
• Promote patient and staff safety at all times and be familiar with and follow the Trust’s Health & Safety policies, reporting any concerns to appropriate staff.
• Occasionally visit the external decontamination supplier to gain or refresh their decontamination knowledge by participating in Trust instrument decontamination processes.
• Ensure good housekeeping is observed at all times.
• Demonstrate procedures and activities to colleagues and new starters.

Job Summary PURPOSE OF JOB: To undertake decontamination duties and assist colleagues and Supervisors in providing the specialised decontamination of medical devices which contribute to the clinical care of the patient. To carry out the receipt, disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, inspection checking, packing and sterilization of reusable medical devices. Record all tasks in the Healthcare Science Information Systems (tracking and traceability database). Work in accordance with the Department’s standard procedures, Work Instructions and the Quality Management System. Plan your own workload with limited supervision and the role involves exposure to blood and body fluids. Role & Responsibilities 1. Perform a thorough damp dust of work areas prior to commencement of work 2. Accepting used surgical instruments into the department ready to be reprocessed. 3. Correctly loading the washer-disinfector and autoclave to ensure effective decontamination of the entire load. 4. Ensuring a full inspection of the load is carried out prior to packaging the instruments for sterilization. 5. Packaging instruments, when applicable, in accordance with Hospital policy. 6. Ensuring all machines complete a cycle within accepted HTM 01-01 and HTM 01-06 guidance and passing the load to be released. 7. Recording and reporting any failed runs to the Decontamination Lead. 8. Reporting any problems/ missing instruments to the Supervisor as soon as possible. 9. Inspecting all sterile packages for integrity once the load has cooled sufficiently and returning any compromised packages to be re-packaged and re-autoclaved. 10. Returning decontaminated goods back to respective departments as soon as possible. 11. Ensuring all items passed through a decontamination process have a traceability label attached/available. 12. Ensuring all relevant paperwork within the department is completed. 13. Undertaking daily checks of all machinery as per HTM 01-01 and HTM 01-06 guidance and keeping records of the checks. 14. The post holder will participate in the Sterile Service Technician shift rota, including weekend, on-call rota. 15. Demonstrating good communication skills within the multi-disciplinary team 16. Ensuring appropriate stock levels are maintained within the department. 17. Accepting and processing equipment from outside agencies/other hospitals for use in Fairfield Hospital then, subsequently reprocessing and returning the equipment to the supplier. 18. Will be required to achieve NVQ level 3, City and Guilds or Decontamination qualification in agreed time. 19. To operate decontamination equipment in accordance with all safety requirements and manufacturers requirements Clinical Practice Ensuring the correct Personal Protective Equipment is used when undertaking specific tasks. Reporting incidents/occurrences using established methods and procedures. Participating in clinical trials Participating in clinical audit & carry out testing of equipment validation and testing Education Ensuring all relevant mandatory training provided by the hospital is undertaken on a yearly basis. Ensuring training on all machinery used within the department is undertaken. Personal Professional Development Undertaking recognised qualifications/ further training within the sterile services area. Being aware of the effect of changing legislation on current practices and adapting to change in an appropriate manner. The above list is not exhaustive but reflects main duties of the post. Your new role
You will join a highly skilled Engineering Team working on a shift pattern of earlies and lates, 12-hour shifts, 6am to 6pm days or 10am - 10pm lates. You will ensure the plant is well maintained by carrying out regular PPM and reacting to any breakdowns, ensuring the plant is back online as soon as possible.
Working with site plan to manage any long-term repairs and ensure short-term fixes in place to meet production demands, ensuring all work complies with Electricity at work regulations to meet safety standards. There will be regular maintenance on boilers, pressure systems including steam, condensate and air, and you will ensure all works carried out are recorded in daily maintenance log and on the Assets Master System. Work permits are issued to any site contractors and any relevant isolation certificates, all spare parts are updated, and critical spares are available for any breakdowns.

What you'll need to succeed
Ideally, you will have completed a full apprenticeship in manufacturing engineering, or qualified to NVQ/C&G level 3 in maintenance engineering including electrical engineering.
Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred but not essential, a good understanding of health & safety, continuous improvement techniques and strong IT skills.
