Responsibilities of our Technician in Catering:
Organisation of practical workspace areas to ensure effective utilisation of space and realistic work simulations and prepare materials for use by students including training aids and learning resources.
Overall responsibility for Health and Safety in practical workspace areas and to ensure compliance with all.
Contribute fully to the membership of course teams, attending staff meetings and liaising with staff on individual student’s progress and support needs.
Assist in the maintenance of records of individual student progress where appropriate, including maintaining records of student attendance and initial assessment.
Ensure that consumables, materials, preparation and stock control are available and prepared to the required level in practical learning environments;
Follow group financial procedures in ordering consumables and other practical equipment for line manager authorisation and update practical learning environment inventories annually.
Deliver taster sessions and attend open events as required

The opportunity
Barnsley College boasts a large estate with excellent facilities for students, visitors, and staff. To enhance our environment and continually improve our services, we are seeking a Technician to join our expanding Estates department.
Our Estates department is responsible for the maintenance of 17 buildings, primarily located in the town centre, along with several campuses further afield. The team consists of approximately 75 members, including cleaning, maintenance, and office support staff.
This role focuses on both Reactive and Planned Preventative Maintenance schedules for college equipment, offering a dynamic work environment with no set job structure - each day brings new challenges. This post would suit somebody with experience and knowledge in the construction or engineering industry, as this can be used to provide and maintain well-equipped safe workshop environments to industry standards. Previous experience may have seen you working with construction or electrical equipment or within industrial environments, where you have had exposure to various machinery and maintenance tasks. We are looking for a Technician that can effectively maintain our stores and distribute tools to students whilst ensuring their safe return, along with preparing materials for the use of apprentices.
Other duties include:
Monitoring health and safety across the workshops and delivery areas
Setting up workshops to facilitate practical delivery and end point assessments
Supporting delivery staff with mock exams
Ordering materials to maintain the provision
Supporting teaching staff

The successful candidate will be a proactive person who adopts a flexible, positive, team approach to ensure our school site is safe, secure and welcoming. Working under the direction of the Trust Estates Manager, you will be responsible for providing an effective and efficient on-site service, including ensuring the security of the buildings and the surrounding areas, responding promptly to site related requests from staff, maintaining accurate records on IT systems, heating and lighting of the premises, general maintenance works and cleaning duties where required. The successful candidate will be aware of Health & Safety regulations associated with schools' sites. Technician in Fashion and Photography Salary: £23,034 per annum

Responsibilities of our Technician in Fashion and Photography: Organisation of practical workspace areas to ensure effective utilisation of space and realistic work simulations and prepare materials for use by students including training aids and learning resources. Overall responsibility for Health and Safety in practical workspace areas and to ensure compliance. Ensure that practical learning environments, equipment, machines and plant comply with health and safety requirements, identifying necessary actions and reporting through line management Manage a rolling programme of learning space and equipment maintenance including repairs as required and for ensuring relevant checks are made on machine tools, equipment and materials in accordance with Health and Safety requirements (i.e. PAT testing, COSHH, etc) Contribute fully to the membership of course teams, attending staff meetings and liaising with staff on individual student’s progress and support needs. Assist in the maintenance of records of individual student progress where appropriate, including maintaining records of student attendance and initial assessment. Ensure that consumables, materials, preparation and stock control are available and prepared to the required level in practical learning environments. Follow group financial procedures in ordering consumables and other practical equipment for line manager authorisation and update practical learning environment inventories annually. Deliver taster sessions and attend open events as required. What we’re looking for in our Technician in Fashion and Photography: GCSE (A -C) or equivalent in Maths and English First aid qualification or willing to work towards Knowledge of Health and Safety policy/procedures Recent experience of subject specialism Able to work across the age and ability range in classroom, workshop and one to one situation.
