Typical day to day responsibilities of our porters include. Moving patients on Beds, Trolleys & chairs around the hospital. Collecting & delivering specimen samples, blood products. Delivering Pharmaceuticals to wards & departments. Collection & delivery of medical gases. Waste service collection. Patient food trolleys. Clean linen deliveries. Postal services, furniture moves. We work with the mortuary department.

Job description is as follows:- You will primarily be working in the decontamination facility with the odd occasion of being needed to help on the endoscopy unit as instructed by the nurse in charge. This may be making refreshments for patients, making up trolleys in recovery areas and taking waste to the waste cupboard. Principle duties will be working as part of a team in the decontamination area, be competent in the decontamination and disinfection of endoscopes and accessories, including the safe handling, storage and traceability of endoscopy equipment including AERS and drying cabinets. To be competent in the use of endoscopy equipment including use of AERs and drying cabinets. Ensure scopes are available for procedures. To ensure the departments documented track and traceability system requirements and procedures are followed throughout the department. To document all loan and return of endoscopes. To read and file all water tests weekly or quarterly. To be capable of working alone and unsupervised but ensure documented operational procedures are adhered to. To be able to respond to urgent requests for priority equipment processing from registered nurse or other senior team members on a daily basis. To ensure PPE is worn in decontamination area as specified in trust policy. To adhere to the requirements of working within a controlled environment. To fully understand COSHH regulations, especially in regards to hazardous cleaning chemicals. To be responsible for approving loads after decontamination cycles are complete by carrying out various quality checks to ensure instruments are safely decontaminated before use. Ensure all production areas are fully stocked up and stock levels maintained. To participate in the cleaning and maintenance of all work areas to ensure high standards of cleanliness are achieved. To be able to deal with telephone enquiries and use telephone skills when dealing with engineers in regards to the decontamination facility.

To participate in the provision of an Estates service primarily undertaking electrical day-to-day repairs, planned maintenance, installation and minor improvements. The post is primarily based at the Alexandra Hospital Redditch however, the post holder will be required to undertake work at Kidderminster Hospital and other Trust sites as required. To record work information as required for operation of the Planet FM management system. It will be anticipated that some mechanical duties will be undertaken as training and experience is gained. Participation in the Trusts Estates tradesman on-call Rota to cover either site is also required. Where instructed install and test new electrical installations in accordance with the current electrical regulations and hospital standards

Overhaul, renovate and repair worn, failed or damaged mechanical plant and installations 4. To carry out any necessary mechanical engineering tests or measurements, in compliance with accepted standards, good industry practice and the Estates Department schedule of inspection. 5. Become familiar with and when adequately trained carry out basic electrical fault diagnosis and repairs 6. Participate fully in all relevant estates procedures and ensure completion of all necessary documentation in accordance with Estates Department policies. 7. Where instructed install and test new mechanical installations in accordance with the current standards, good industry practice and hospital standards 8. When required advise others on the correct operation of equipment to which you are conversant. 9. Record work information as required for operation of the Planet FM management system. 10. To be responsible for the upkeep, tidiness and maintaining of a safe working environment in the workshops and engineering plant rooms. 25. Where necessary undertake training and operate any computerized systems that are used within the Estates Department. 26. To liaise closely with all modern matrons, ward sisters and heads of departments with regards to electrical maintenance and other relevant estates matters. 27. When required oversee mechanical contractors working on site (This may involve organizing the isolation of mechanical systems for work to be carried out, to include the issuing of relevant permits etc.) 28. To assist in maintaining the documentation associated with the Hospitals mechanical systems. 29. Carry out the execution of any other duties as relevant to the Estates services, which may be allocated by management. 30. Be prepared to be available, within reason, to work at short notice, out of normal hours, in emergency situations. 31. Carry out emergency lift procedures, as and when required. General Duties: Maintenance craftsmen will be employed on work appropriate to their core specialty. However, they will be progressively trained to acquire elements of each others skills with the intention of achieving a competent and flexible work force
