Design Project Manager - Bringing Creativity to Life with Efficiency

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Design Project Manager to join our team and lead the successful execution of exciting design projects from inception to completion. You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the project, from understanding client needs to managing delivery within budget and timeframe.

A Day in the Life:

• Client Relationship Management:

1. Collaborate with clients to clearly define their design aspirations and translate them into a formal design brief.
2. Facilitate seamless communication between the client and internal design team, ensuring client expectations are met and exceeded.
3. Proactively manage client expectations and navigate through any changes or challenges efficiently.

• Project Planning & Execution:

1. Develop comprehensive project plans using MS Project or similar project management software, outlining key milestones, timelines, and resource allocation.
2. Conduct regular meetings with client and internal teams to ensure clear communication, address design queries, and maintain project momentum.
3. Coordinate effectively with internal designers, landlords, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders involved in the project.

• Procurement & Tendering:

1. Identify and recommend qualified consultants to join the project team through a defined RFP process.
2. Assist the client in the tendering process, responding to technical queries, and clarifying project requirements.
3. Evaluate tender submissions, providing well-informed recommendations to the client for informed decision-making.

• Construction & Handover:

1. Facilitate regular stakeholder meetings throughout the construction phase, ensuring open communication and alignment.
2. Document meeting minutes for future reference and action tracking.
3. Manage client change requests, translating them into clear instructions for the project team.
4. Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, oversee quality control, and address any logistical concerns.
5. Manage testing and commissioning procedures for project readiness.
6. Coordinate final inspections with landlord, consultants and contractors to ensure project compliance.
7. Prepare punch-lists and diligently follow up with contractors to rectify deficiencies.
8. Manage project close-out, including final accounts, handover documentation (as-built drawings, O&M manuals), and training sessions.

What We Are Looking For:

• Minimum of 5 years of experience managing design projects in the Retail/Corporate industry. Junior candidates with demonstrably strong skills and relevant experience in design management may be considered.
• Proven track record of successfully delivering complex design projects on time and within budget.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills in both written and verbal formats.
• Strong organizational and time management abilities.
• Proven ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and adapt to changing circumstances while maintaining deadlines.
• Proficiency in design visualization software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit), project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera), and communication tools (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite). Knowledge of BIM (Building Information Modelling) systems a plus.

• Keen understanding of design constructability, able to identify potential constructability issues early in the design process and collaborate with designers to find solutions. Experience working with contractors and understanding how design decisions impact buildability and cost.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing construction sites, particularly with office fit-outs or refurbishment projects. The Computing & Business team are dynamic and reflective. We teach KS3 Computing and at KS4 we currently offer GCSE Computer Science, BTEC DIT, Cambridge National iMedia, GCSE Business Studies, BTEC Enterprise, BTEC Travel & Tourism and BTEC WorkSkills. The FA are excited to be searching for a Project Manager on a 2-year fixed-term contract who will be based at the National Football Centre, St George's Park.

The role will provide support managing a range of capital expenditure projects across the 330-acre estate, including grounds, pitch facilities, the National Football Centre and the Hilton Hotel which consists of 228 bedrooms, providing facilities for major sporting or business conferences.

The Project Manager will work within the FA's Property team based at St George Park and will be responsible and accountable to the Project Manager of Capital Projects.

What will you be doing?

• To be responsible and accountable for delivering multiple capital schemes at St George's Park, ranging from values of £5k up to £2,000k. The project manager will be expected to manage a variety of small and medium-sized schemes simultaneously as required and to ensure that all schemes are delivered on time, within budget and to the quality expected, whilst ensuring a fast turnaround and a customer-focused service.
• To programme and plan the delivery of projects appropriately within a live-occupied estate, logistically planning and co-ordinating the impact of the relevant works around a strict programme to prevent conflict of major events and training sessions. Major Events include pre-training for both Men's and Women's England football teams. At specific planned events, the Project Manager must assertively direct and manage work during high-profile activities such as international, training events and the like.
• To function as contract administrator for relevant schemes from start to completion.
• To represent the National Football Centre's interests in negotiating and steering the processes and fundamental projects and strike the appropriate balance between the client brief, specification, financial aspects, and implementation with consideration to sustainability.
• Function as the main point of contact for the end-user/requestor and keep an open line of communication. To manage expectations as required as regards timescales, feasibility of requests and anticipated outcomes and appropriately articulate any issues.
• Communicate professionally and efficiently with numerous stakeholders, ground maintenance teams, reception staff and other associated personnel where required.
• To support the Lead Project Manager in reviewing and to continually update/develop all Estates minor works contract tendering procedures, and standard tendering documentation to comply with all procurement requirements and policies.
• Expected to lead in identifying, assessing, and managing risk and issues within lead projects, only escalating to Lead Project Manager when necessary.
• To undertake a regular and ongoing assessment of the overall performance of all works contractors used on-site for allocated projects, to ensure that works are undertaken safely and properly, conforming to the appropriate specification and design guide and are of appropriate quality, resulting in the value for money provision of facilities.
• To accurately manage purchase orders, filing and management of invoices. Provide cost forecasting on budgets and up-to-date financial status of outgoings when asked for by the business.
• To deliver schemes in line with Project Management Procedures including the production and regular updating of project programmes, change control registers, risk registers, client briefs, meeting minutes, etc.
• To ensure compliance with Health & Safety policies and relevant statutory standards including the Health & Safety at Work Act within allocated projects. Ensure that the permit-to-work systems, risk assessments, safe working practices and safety plans are implemented.

Due to the nature of the role, the successful candidate will be required to be 3 days in and 2 days at home. However, due to the nature of the role, there may be times when the role will require attendance on-site for more than 3 days a week, therefore, the successful candidate must be flexible with the needs of the business.
