• Writes, publishes, reviews, and measures the success of press releases on AmeriCorps.gov (Drupal), advisories, social media, and other relevant materials, aligning plans with agency goals and objectives as directed by the Press Secretary.

At Cavendish Nuclear we're working to create a safe and secure world, together, and if you join us, you can play your part as a Senior CS&A Engineer based in our brand new office in Hull.

The role
As a Senior Civil, Structural and Architectural Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You will be trusted to undertake projects through the entire project lifecycle, and you will therefore have an opportunity to be involved in, or lead projects from initial scheme and concept design, to engineering and detailed design, overseeing construction, right through to eventual decommissioning. This is particularly unique within a consultancy environment and what makes our projects and work so rewarding.

Day to day, you'll form a leading role within a dynamic design team undertaking traditional, bespoke and innovative designs of reinforced concrete, steel and masonry structures for defence, nuclear decommissioning and nuclear new build projects, as well as support to operating nuclear sites. Due to the nature of our projects, you will design to various normal and extreme loading scenarios, including seismic design. You will provide technical leadership and expertise, and you will take on the role of Technical Lead on specific projects when required. The successful candidate will also be expected to:

• Deliver Nuclear design work, inspections and construction site support on projects for a range of public and private sector clients within the UK and overseas. Work encompasses the full lifecycle of a project.
• Concept and Feasibility studies for multi discipline design projects.
• Analysis and Design using engineering software such as Tekla and Robot as well as producing hand calculations.
• Prepare Calculations, CDM activities, Basis of Design, Material Specifications, Scopes of Work, Technical reports, Inter discipline design coordination and supervision.
• Liaise with Technicians in the preparation of Revit models.
• Work with integrated multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high profile projects.
• Ensure all work to be carried out with a positive attitude toward safety, both in design and in the office environment.
• Be responsible for the management of project delivery, and mentor and provide technical support to CS&A Engineers.

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with two days in the office/onsite and three days working from home.

Essential experience of the Senior CS&A Engineer

• Highly experience in the design of structures in reinforced concrete and steelwork.
• It would be advantageous but not necessary to have previous experience within the nuclear industry and design for seismic loading.
• Awareness and experience of using the latest design codes and standards.
• Understanding of the relevant legal and regulatory standards.

Senior Institute Associate - Institute for Technology Law and Policy - Georgetown University Law Center

Job Overview

Professors Paul Ohm and Julie Cohen of the Georgetown University Law Center and Professor Meg Jones in the Georgetown Communications, Culture, and Technology Department have launched a multi-year research project entitled “Redesigning the Governance Stack: New Institutional Approaches to Information Economy Harms” - housed in the Institute for Technology Law and Policy at Georgetown Law. We seek applications for an academic fellow to help us lead this project. This position is a full-time, two-year academic position designed for someone interested in going on the law teaching market during the second year of the fellowship.

The project aims to reinvent the institutions and tools used to govern technology and technology companies in ways that prioritize public accountability and effective public oversight. It will seek to restore and re-center the rule of law within a new institutional framework designed around the needs and failure modes of an informational economy. This will be a “full stack” effort, encompassing the sorts of implementation details that shorter term projects might propose but also extending down to rethink fundamental principles of regulatory organization and operation. The first outputs of the project are available here.

The successful applicant will be well acquainted with issues related to technology law and policy and will have some familiarity with one or more of the following adjacent fields: administrative law, computer science, science and technology studies, information and/or communication studies, and political economy.

We have secured the first year of funding for the position at this stage. We are confident we will be able to secure funding for at least a second year from other sources, and we hope the position will be funded for at least five years, contingent on future grant awards.

Requirements and Qualifications

• JD or equivalent degree in law
• 3-5 years of experience - preference for 2 or more of those years with professional or academic experience dealing with important social issues at the intersection of technology, law and policy
• A proven track record of successful production of interesting research - preference for  some prior publications
