About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Trading Standards Team for a full time, Trading Standards - Enforcement Officer . The ideal candidate will have experience of working within a Trading Standards team, be adaptable, creative and have experience and understanding in dealing with regulatory enforcement issues, and a good understanding of enforcement, including the preparation of prosecution reports. The role will predominently involve work in the area of seizures of illicit products, and processing the seized items to conclusion, and dealing with consumer complaints.

As part of the wider Public Protection Team, you will have the opportunity to work alongside colleagues who carry out a wide range of statutory functions, including Neighbourhoods Enforcement, Private Sector Rented Housing, Licensing and Commercial and there will be opportunities to work collaboratively across the teams when necessary.

Normal hours of work are 37 hours per week based around the usual business working week.

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Cyber Security Analyst to join our proactive ICT Cyber Security and Compliance Service. This team provides operational security controls, guidance, assurance, and compliance activities that support all products and platforms within the Council. Our mission is to protect networks, devices, and data from unauthorised access or criminal use by ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information.

In this role, you will be at the forefront of our efforts to protect and defend against malicious cyber-attacks. Our modern, proactive operational Cyber Security team is dedicated to providing:

• Threat Hunting: Actively seek out potential threats before they can cause harm. This involves continuous monitoring and analysis of network traffic, system logs, and other data sources to identify unusual patterns or behaviours that may indicate a security threat.

• Vulnerability Management: Identify and address security weaknesses in our systems. Conduct regular vulnerability assessments, apply patches and updates, and implement security controls to mitigate risks.

• Defence Management: Oversee and fine-tune our defences, including perimeter firewalls, through granular rule and object management. Ensure that our security policies are effectively enforced and that our network is protected against unauthorized access.

• Web and Email Filtering: Implement and manage filters to protect against malicious content. Configure and maintain web and email filtering solutions to block phishing attempts, malware, and other threats.

• EDR and XDR Technologies: Administer and respond to Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) and Extended Detection and Response (XDR) technologies to swiftly mitigate threats. Monitor alerts, investigate incidents, and take appropriate actions to contain and remediate threats.

• Security Governance and Compliance: Create and manage policies and processes to ensure that all technology remains secure and compliant. Ensuring that all security layers align against our Internal Security Standards and Statutory and Regulatory obligations.

• SIEM Management: Manage, monitor, and respond to security incidents and events using the Council’s Security Incident and Event Monitoring (SIEM) platform. Ensure timely detection, analysis, and response to security incidents to minimise impact and support recovery efforts.

As part of our team, the successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the security and integrity of the Council’s information systems. You will work closely with other IT professionals to develop and implement security strategies, respond to incidents, and continuously improve our security posture. Your proactive approach and expertise in cyber security will help the Council remain resilient against the heightened global cyber threat landscape.

• Security Qualifications: Accredited to a recognised Security qualification (e.g., CISSP, CCP, CCSP). The successful candidate must be willing to work towards obtaining a referenced qualification if not already achieved.
• Proactive Threat Hunting: Demonstrated ability to actively seek out and neutralise potential threats. Experience with threat intelligence tools and techniques, and a deep understanding of the latest cyber threats and attack vectors.
• Vulnerability Identification: Expertise in identifying and mitigating security vulnerabilities. Experience with vulnerability scanning tools, penetration testing, and risk assessment methodologies.
• Defence and Firewall Management: Experience in managing defences and perimeter firewalls with a focus on granular rule and object management. Proficiency in configuring firewall rules, managing access controls, and monitoring network traffic for suspicious activity.

Your role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work on urban resilience in Greater Manchester, a city-region that is recognised by the United Nations as a global leader in resilience. As a Civil Contingencies Officer, the post holder will be a key member of the Greater Manchester Resilience Unit, supporting the emergency planning, response, and resilience service to the ten Councils in Greater Manchester. Operating as part of the Greater Manchester Resilience Unit, a shared service established by Greater Manchester’s Councils to deliver expertise in civil contingencies, the role holder will have responsibility to support specific resilience workstreams and projects, including ensuring projects are delivered on time and to the required standard. They will also be responsible for the design and delivery of training programmes for Councils and partners organisations across GM.

This work is delivered in a wider multi-agency environment with civil contingencies activity across Greater Manchester coordinated through the Greater Manchester Resilience Forum, a statutory partnership that brings together over 80 organisations involved in planning for, responding to and recovering from emergencies.

The post holder will join the team at a pivotal and challenging time as Greater Manchester’s Councils implement their resilience ambitions set out in the recent Trailblazer Devolution Deal agreed with Government, the Greater Manchester Resilience Strategy, and the UK Government’s Resilience Framework.

The post holder will have excellent communication and relationship management skills with the capacity to work with senior managers, operational staff and different stakeholders. You will

• Support the effective development and delivery of emergency preparedness and response arrangements in Greater Manchester’s Councils.
• Work with Business Partners, team members and GM Councils to provide a focused, civil contingencies service that ensures business and civil contingencies agendas are delivered.
• Be part of an on-call 365/24/7 rota, providing a prompt response to emergencies within Greater Manchester and providing expert advice to Councils.
• Develop and deliver specific programmes of work themed around particular risks, response capabilities and resilience issues.
• Participate in multi-agency work to build on and strengthen emergency preparedness, response and recovery arrangements tasked out and coordinated through the Greater Manchester Resilience Forum.
• Car/vehicle driver's license - This post is a designated Casual Car User. Therefore, you must always hold a full valid driving license and provide your own car for use at work. You will receive Casual Car User Allowance.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced litigator to join our busy Litigation team. The Litigation Team deals with civil and criminal litigation, licensing, employment and debt recovery.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Wyre Council at a time when waste and the environment are at the forefront of legislative change and authorities are reassessing their services to deliver maximum environmental benefit.

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating the delivery of the council’s waste management service in partnership with our external provider, including household residual collections, compostable organic collections, recycling collections, bulky household collection and clinical waste. The role also includes management and responsibility for the environmental enforcement service and the external kennelling and public convenience contracts.
