Defence and Aviation Systems - East Midlands Area
A Chief Engineer is required to join a market leading Innovative Defence Systems and Aviation Company. The Chief Engineer will be responsible for leading and motivating engineering teams to generate engineering solutions that meet the Customer needs. The Chief Engineer will be the first signatory for formal engineering documentation according to company processes ensuring the delivery of all engineering aspects of the programme whilst meeting the governance required within the business. The Chief Engineer will work in collaboration with the VP of Programmes, Programme Managers and Chief Technical Officer to lead on all technical and engineering guidance to support the project team in delivering various programmes. The Chief Engineer will have an extensive background in engineering with demonstratable experience in successfully defining and leading the delivery of engineering projects.
Chief Engineer - Key Responsibilities
• Act as the design/technical authority for allocated programmes
• Attend customer meetings as design authority for company
• Collaborate with various stakeholders, including Parent Companies when required
• Define any project specific processes, practices and tools to be used to ensure delivery
• Ensure the delivery of all engineering aspects whilst meeting the governance required
• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and industry standards
• Lead multi-disciplined engineering teams to meet the Customers' needs
• Oversee and manage the engineering team, providing leadership and guidance
• Ensure the highest of standards and professionalism
• Plan and prioritise activities required to deliver the programme and/or solution
• Support the Chief Technical Officer as required for R&D
• Technical response to the any bids and new business opportunities
• Support the Chief Technical Officer on all engineering aspects
• Support the Configuration Control Committee internal and external as required
• Support the Safety committee(s) as defined in the Safety Management Plan.
Technical Skills, Qualifications and Experience for the Chief Engineer
• MEng engineering degree or equivalent and Ideally a Chartered Engineering status
• Ability to work within defined compliance and processing structures
• Ability to support, lead and coach people with clear and concise communication skills
• Effective stakeholder management skills and good business and commercial awareness
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy with strong organisational skills
• Experience in a similar role within an engineering discipline, preferably aerospace
• An understanding of safety and airworthiness principles
• An understanding of air vehicle systems and sub-systems
• Practical experience of leading and/or managing a technical systems programme
• Strong technical background within requirements capture and system design
• Good experience with integration & test, qualification and certification
• Ability to work independently as well as being a team player
• A positive 'can do' attitude with the ability to deliver exceptional customer service
• Creative and resourceful under pressure and forward thinking
• Able to prioritise workload with minimal supervision, in order to meet deadlines
• Willingness and ability to travel to overseas and in the UK occasionally
