VA Caribbean Health Care System (1A complexity) is offering an exceptional leadership opportunity as Chief of Psychology. The incumbent reports to the Mental Health & Behavioral Health Sciences Service (MH&BHSS) and organizes, manages the delivery of comprehensive mental health care and activities which serve Veterans with a wide range of mental health disorders and supervises interdisciplinary teams. The incumbent also serves as Director for the Workplace Violence Prevention Program that oversees the Disruptive Behavior Committee, Employee Threat Assessment Team, Fugitive Felon Program, Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior (PMDB) Program and Behavioral Health Response Team. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Review requests for clinical privileges in communication with providers supervisors. Recommends their approval, their limits and revocation.
• Collaborates with ACOS MH&BHS, Section chiefs, with other managers and other behavioral health leadership in fostering compliance with VA performance measures and VHA organization goals and guidelines set forth in the Uniform Mental Health Services in VHA Medical Points of Service (VHA Directive 1160.01).

The Spinal Cord Injury Physical Therapy Assistant is responsible for the following: Patient Evaluation, Treatment, and Development

• Under the clinical supervision of a PT; plans, integrates, and communicates comprehensive physical therapy treatments for patients with SCI/D who have a variety of deficits including complete or incomplete paralysis of upper lower extremities with the associated medical and functional problems. Therapeutic objectives are complex, and the treatment procedures involved require the application of highly specialized skills and knowledge.
• Develops and implements individualized physical therapy treatments including resistive exercises, passive and active range of motion, functional mobility training, postural training, transfer training, etc., for acute and chronic, inpatient and outpatient spinal cord injured patients.

This position is necessary to directly supervise a team of six nurse educators and three nurse informaticists that provide services to clinical staff in the entire health care system in response to mandates, needs assessments, requests associated with performance improvement plans, quality and safety recommendations, national or VISN initiatives. These services include but are not limited to education, competency assessment, education reimbursement management, student placement and onboarding, learning management systems, software management, continuing education program management, Automatic Data Processing Application Coordinator (ADPAC) services, and REdI (ACLS, BLS) program management. The full-time Clinical Education Nurse Manager is responsible and accountable for managing the day-to-day operations of Clinical Education and is needed to provide valuable support in meeting the needs of the facility in a timely fashion.

• Coordination of all major physical moves of programs and staff at the SFVAMC.

Major Duties:

• Demonstrates dependability and reliability by scheduling and using leave appropriately for positive impact on patient/resident care.
• Recognizes and reports subtle or obvious changes in patient's/resident's behavior, communication, or physical condition. Documents observations, changes in patient's/resident's condition, and response to nursing interventions as applicable.
• Assists in the development of the nursing care plan by defining problems and needs and suggesting nursing actions based on information gained through interaction with the patient/resident and/or group meetings.
• Assists with planned therapy sessions in conjunction with RN. Works with assigned patients/residents using a variety approaches for the purpose of promoting independence and self reliance and encouraging patients/residents to accept responsibility for their own behavior. Shares patient/resident information and reactions with the interdisciplinary team.
• Assists in maintaining a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment. Recognizes and reports problems and makes suggestions for corrective actions.
• Anticipates potential for critical situations attempts to prevent such situations. Recognizes and takes appropriate action in emergencies.
• Delivers safe, basic physical and emotional care to patients/residents with simple to complex needs while developing technical skills under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. Adheres to VA BHHCS and Nursing policies and procedures.
• Escorts patients/residents scheduled for diagnostic procedures and/or appointments, on or off stations. Appropriate care is provided for a population ranging from young adult to geriatric age group, considering gender and culture.
• Demonstrates interactions with customers (patients/residents, family members, visitors, co-workers) in a courteous, tactful, and helpful manner.
