This is a developmental role working towards achieving a Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist post within theAdult Community Eating Disorders Service. The post holder will be working towards working as an autonomous practitioner to provide high quality and effective support to the multi-disciplinary professional team in the implementation of care, support and treatment to patients referred to the service. After a period of observation, the band 5 will be able to facilitate medical monitoring clinics. They will work closely with the team Psychiatrist, Specialist Interest General Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialist to offer medical monitoring and intensive support to service users with severe and complex eating disorderswhich includes physical examination, investigation, ECG, phlebotomy skills. Working closely with the team therapists and dietitians, they will also provide support to service users to engage in intensive treatment support to prevent admission to hospital where clinically appropriate. This would be carried out in the outpatient’s clinics and home environments.Service users will be seen at a variety of sites across the county of Bedfordshire and Luton and the post holder will be expected to travel and provide clinics throughout the county to meet the service needs and for clinical supervision and MDT meetings. Travel to in-patient services outside the county may also be necessary to support service users for discharge.

The team sits within Community Team with the role predominantly completing full holistic assessment. You will be covering Luton and Bedfordshire GP. The Dunstable CAMHS Emotional and Behaviour Team is an extremely friendly and professional team forming part of a broader South Bedfordshire CAMHS service. The post-holder will be offering assessments and treatments to young people with moderate to severe mental health difficulties, involving parent/carers, schools and other agencies as appropriate. We work alongside other CAMHS teams that offer more specialist support, for example for clients in crisis, or those with eating disorders or learning disabilities. We also work closely with our growing local community teams that have staff working in schools, GP practices and Early Help teams. The team is made up of: Management and Administrative staff, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Psychotherapists, Creative Art Therapists, Systemic Therapists, Counselors, Nurse Specialists and Mental Health Practitioners.

This is a band 6 post. However, we are also able to offer a preceptorship to a newly qualified nurse starting at band 5, with support offered to enable development of competencies and promotion to band 6 within the team. It is expected that all competencies will be met within a maximum of 2 years through this process.

We would be happy to consider applicants looking for flexible hours.

The post-holder will require a high degree of professional autonomy and self-management, and the ability to work well in a team. You will be supported by monthly management supervision in addition to clinical supervision by a qualified nurse. You will have access to a variety of CPD sessions, and annual performance appraisals. The Bedfordshire and Luton Occupational Therapy mental health service are seeking a Band 5 OT to join our team, the post will be within the Older Persons Community Mental Health Teams (including memory assessment service) in South-Bedfordshire and Luton, being based at:Beech Close, Dunstable, Beds, LU6 3SD

We have successfully established a Band 5 Development Programme which enables Band 5 OT’s to work through a recognised preceptorship programme and on towards developing the skills required to practise as a Band 6 OT. Throughout your employment, you will be supported by an experienced Specialist OT to develop a personalised CPD plan, with the aim of enabling you to develop the knowledge, skills and experience of a senior practitioner.

We are a dynamic and forward thinking team that actively encourages and supports professional and service development. We are looking for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist who is enthusiastic about working in mental health and older persons services. You should have some demonstrable experience of working within a mental health setting and/or with older adults with mental health or dementia diagnosis, as well as an ability to independently carry an OT clinical caseload.

You will offer specialist occupational therapy assessment and interventions drawn from the Model of Human Occupation within both the community mental health team and memory assessment service. The OT assessments and interventions will be recovery focused and client centred, supporting and enabling the person to achieve their goals in self-care, productivity and leisure.

The Occupational Therapist will work as an integral part of the Older Persons Community Multi-disciplinary Teams to develop functional and organic services. There will be the opportunity to offer and implement group based programs and work closely with the Recovery Service to ensure clients can access educational and self-help groups to support well-being and self-management of their mental health.

You will be part of a larger OT service, where we place a high value on staff wellbeing and investment in teams to ensure a high quality service provision. A planned, supportive induction period will be developed to enable you to reach your full potential in your role. Regular managerial and professional supervision will be provided and you will have monthly opportunities to participate in the service’s OT CPD events and shape service development through quality improvement. Professional development and training are actively encouraged through the appraisal process.

• To work as an integral member of the multi-disciplinary team for South-Bedfordshire and Luton Older Peoples community mental health teams and memory assessment services.
• The OT will provide bio-psycho-social assessments and interventions to clients referred to the CMHT/Memory Assessment Service
• To provide expert advice to the Community Mental Health Team on Occupational Therapy issues and to raise the profile of Occupational Therapy approaches to care within the Team.
• To manage a caseload that reflects the need for specialist O.T skills. This may include supporting care coordinators in evidencing the need for social care packages.
• To develop and facilitate, therapeutic group activities within the community; according to the needs of clients and service.
• To work in collaboration with the Specialist OT in the development of clinical and professional practice and support the implementation of research, evidence based practice, quality standards and audit within the OT service / MDT.
• To develop and maintain links with relevant, statutory and non-statutory agencies with particular reference to day care services, user led initiatives, voluntary bodies and Primary Care Providers
