About the Role:

Our medicine nurses perform cutting edge medicine procedures including but not limited to ultrasounds, echocardiograms, oncology, endoscopy, rhinoscopy, cystoscopy, interventional radiology/urology, laser-assisted turbinectomies (LATE) to complement traditional airway surgery in brachycephalic, or squashed nose dogs, stone removal, ……. all of which you will have the chance to “scrub-in” with as part of being an amazing medicine nurse here at VSOS.

Our ER nurses will be involved in collecting vitals, recognising trends, physical exams, monitoring and assisting with ICU patients and assisting with various procedures as needed.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Preparation for all ER and medicine cases, communication with doctors to decide pre-meds/induction and CRI’s if needed
• Perform sedation and anaesthesia for various procedures
• Setting up treatment ER sheets for ER cases on Smartflow
• Assist with diagnostic testing including sample collection, catheter placement, venipuncture, radiography, submitting and running lab work

Experience and Qualifications:

• Certificate IV Veterinary Nursing is essential with

Have a particular interest in ventilation of children, and the training for staff currently within the team and trust as well as non-medical carers. Assist in the support, training and assessment of student nurses, ensuring their learning outcomes link theory to clinical practice. LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES Receive and assess any referrals and be responsible for the planning and delivery of high quality, evidence-based care for children with a variety of healthcare needs. Liaise with service and clinical coordinator as appropriate. Participate within staff performance reviews and the formation of personal and team development plans. Participate in the development and review of the services Care group and organisations policies procedures and guidelines To be responsible for the most effective and efficient use of resources and equipment and to rapidly identify any replacement needs and resource issues. Participate in the continuing development of induction, orientation and preceptorship programmes for all permanent team members, bank staff and student nurses. To be responsible for managing own daily workload and planning, prioritising and delivering care effectively, whilst identifying and managing any risks to the quality of care provided. PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES To adhere to professional standards in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Councils (NMC) standards of Professional Practice and Code of Professional Conduct. Undertake mandatory training sessions and update own professional clinical knowledge and skills, also reviewing and maintaining own clinical competencies and assist the service and clinical coordinator in the ongoing development of fellow team members. Main duties include: Check and monitor the practices generic email account. Transfer clinical records, allocating to workflow for review by doctors and responding to queries from health professionals, patients and third parties. Scan/upload clinical correspondence onto the clinical system and input coding data into the patient's healthcare records. Distribute daily pathology laboratory results within the clinical system for clinicians review. Ensure all tasks within the clinical systems are dealt with efficiently. Monitor and process daily administrative eConsult requests. Manage all patient, healthcare professional and staff enquiries in an effective manner. Answer incoming phone calls, transferring calls or dealing with the callers request appropriately. Register and monitor new patient registrations via the Healthtech-1 portal. Process new patients medical records and deductions.
