You will support and meet the needs of the service users and families to promote independence to disabled children and young people.

Role details:
*You will be responsible for carrying out assessments for children and young people aged 0-18 years who have severe and complex disabilities. The assessment is to determine the degree of their disability and to identify the most suitable method to support in overcoming or reducing the effect through the provision of specialist, equipment and adaptation of the home.

*You must be vigilant to safeguarding issues and must report any concerns about the safety or welfare of a service user.

*You will be required to advise and support children or young people and their family about the Disabled Facilities Grants system and alternative means of financing adaptations. You will need to encourage and assist the family to explore the pros and cons of an adaptation. And you will work closely with the architects to check the plans and specifications to ensure the design meets the child’s current and predicted needs.
*You will be expected to complete Housing Needs reports and viewing potential properties when appropriate.
*The role will require you to carry out and write up Risk Assessments, Handling Assessments and Handling Plans as appropriate.
*You will need to prioritise and manage a busy caseload with complex cases.

Qualified Approved Mental Health Professional, with a minimum of 2-3 years practice due to the nature of the role.

Up to £28 p/h pay - 3 month contract will possibility of extension.

Successful candidate will be required to triage referrals, allocate work to other AMHPs within the team and chair the daily allocations meeting, and at times they will also need to undertake Mental Health Act Assessments depending on the demand on the service. They will need to be a highly motivated individual who works well under pressure and who can work well within a team as well as on their own.

They will also need to have experience in working with Forensic Mental Health clients as this role will require them to have a small caseload (up to 10 clients) of social supervised service users, who are both in the community and currently detained in the hospital.

Candidate MUST be a car driver as they need to be able to travel across Medway and into Kent as the Mental Health hospitals are located across the county. They may also be required at times to travel to Out of area hospitals (outside of Kent) for clients detained in private hospitals.

The role is a hybrid role as at times they may have to attend the office (or a community base) for team meetings etc.

Enhanced adults and childrens DBS is essential as AMHPs assess both children and adults under the Mental Health Act.
