An exciting opportunity has arisen to be the directorate pharmacist for Acute Medicine & Rehabilitation (AMR) at Oxford University Hospitals. You will have the opportunity to lead a pharmacy team providing a clinical services to AMR services at the John Radcliffe Hospital site. The post offers you exceptional opportunities to develop a specialist clinical role (to the enhanced care unit) alongside your operational skills, leading pharmacy services to a standalone hospital site.

Being responsible for developing pharmacy services across the AMR directorate which includes Medicine, Stroke, Ambulatory Shortstay, Admissions, Emergency department, Ambulatory and hospital at home. You will lead on the vision and strategy for this directorate, including writing business cases and mentoring junior pharmacists optimising patient flow across both Admissions to medicine will be key to success. You will play a pivotal role in leading the pharmacy team in achieving a number of targets including safety, operational, financial and productivity improvements and will be supported closely by the Divisional Pharmacist.

You will facilitate & support the learning and development your pharmacy team including appraisal, diploma tutoring and pre-registration pharmacist training. It would be highly advantageous if you are an independent prescriber to support the wider multi-disciplinary team and will have freedom to identify an area to maximise use of your skills to support the service.

We are looking for a highly motivated, confident and enthusiastic pharmacist with a demonstrable competency in hospital pharmacy practice who can apply their current clinical experience within this setting. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate an ability to think creatively, use their initiative and have a strong commitment to improving patient outcomes and experience. Previous experience in a medical setting would be desirable but not essential.

Direct Patient Care Deliver compassionate excellence via a patient focused clinical pharmacy service, in accordance with national medicines optimisation principles and local clinical pharmacy procedures. Analyse prescriptions, alongside technical resources, patient records and information from patient consults to form an opinion on the most appropriate course of action. Accurately and sensitively communicate medicines related information to a variety of healthcare professionals and patients including those with language difficulties, physical or mental disabilities, in a way that facilitates shared decision making. Optimise transfer of patient care, though timely completion of medicines reconciliation and communication with GPs and community pharmacy teams. Participate in and promote antimicrobial stewardship, medicines safety, and medicines effectiveness initiatives. Support others with highly specialised advice and guidance on patient management in areas where evidence base is lacking or opinions are conflicting. Demonstrate an advanced level of clinical reasoning and judement. Train to become a NMP and when registered with the GPhC and the OUH, prescribe within the Trusts policy for Non-medical Prescribing. The post holder will provide operational oversight to pharmacy services on the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre site, and across the T&O directorate as a whole.
