MEDVAMC Deputy Chief of Staff - Operations
Represents the Chief of Staff (COS) in all aspects of administrative leadership,
including, but not limited to:
Serves, in conjunction with the Chief of Staff, Director, Deputy Director,

Duties include:
The position will provide anesthesia coverage for all specialties of surgery, beside specializing in cardiac
surgeries in a care team approach. Must have experience with anesthetic management for cardiac,
Thoracic, and major vascular procedures and providing anesthesia for insertion of ventricular assist
devices and ECMO.
This position will also be experienced in performing neuraxial (epidural and spinal) anesthesia. Additional
responsibilities include the provision of anesthetic care including transesophageal echocardiography for
Non-Cardiac Anesthesia Procedures.
As Director of Cardiac Anesthesia, the incumbent will be responsible for writing and updating standard

The Associate Chief of Staff, Geriatrics & Extended Care will be responsible for consults, admissions, discharges, and routine care of the Veterans in these programs. He/she will also help coordinate care with other members of the Interdisciplinary Team and with Specialists inside and outside the VA and provide education on disease process, medications, and care needs to Veterans, families, and staff. The Director, Business Management Office performs the following duties:

• This supervisory position provides leadership and managerial direction for effective, uniform, and economical accomplishments of management and administrative functions and responsibilities.
• Directs the formulation and dissemination of business transformation management policies and provides direction, coordination, review and analysis of transformation initiatives.

• The duties may include, but are not limited to:
• Primary responsibility is serving as frontline USDA manager for addressing phytosanitary concerns affecting agricultural trade.
• As a U.S. negotiator leads, participates in, or supports intensive pre-negotiation preparation and strategy development.
• During trade negotiations plays a major role in establishing and maintaining the tenor of discussions on phytosanitary matters for which APHIS is responsible.
• Point of contact between the Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) staff, International Services, Veterinary Services, Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS), other Federal/State Agencies, and industry on trade issue management matters.
• Provides strategic advice to other trade managers in USDA, ensuring that trade policies conform to the international standards of the IPPC and NAPPO.
• Plans, coordinates, or conducts studies relevant to the analysis of trade issues involved in the management of APHIS programs.
• Serves as a resource person to APHIS in identifying emerging scientific issues and modem technical capabilities to be applied to phytosanitary trade issue management.
• Represents the Assistant Deputy Administrator/Director at meetings and conferences with other U.S. agencies, State governments, industry and producer organizations.
• Drafts, reviews and approves controlled correspondence concerning PPQ trade issue management.

This is not a remote position. Department of Veterans Affairs requires that all Senior Executive Service and Senior Executive Service Equivalent employees report to work at a VA-owned or leased facility five days per bi-weekly pay period. The Deputy Chief Officer (DCO), Specialty Care serves as Deputy to the Chief Officer, Specialty Care Services for all program function oversight to include delivery of services, assessment of services, and outcome analysis relating to Anesthesia, allergy & immunology, critical care, cardiology, dermatology, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology, genomic medicine, hepatitis, HIV, infectious disease, neurology, hospital medicine, pain management, oncology, ophthalmology, optometry, podiatry, molecular medicine, radiation oncology, rheumatology, and sleep medicine.

The DCO provides national leadership to and has advisory and consultative responsibility for these programs and their initiatives. Additional responsibilities include developing short and long term goals consistent with VA and VHA's mission, strategies, and goals.

The Chief of SPS assumes responsibility for the coordination of all aspects of the sterile processing service to include high level disinfection, sterilization, sterile storage, infection control and prevention as well as customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Ensures that all applicable Veterans Health Administration (VHA) policies and guidelines are followed and that the American Association of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) guidelines are followed per VHA Directive 1116. The Chief of SPS is an integral part of the medical center leadership team and influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team. The incumbent is responsible for administrative functions of the SPS program which includes membership on the following committees: Infection Prevention/Control; Water Safety Committee (Biomedical Engineering); Clinical Executive Council (CEC); Veterans Integrated Services Network (VISN) 17 Advisory Board; Clinical Product Review Committee (CPRC); Reusable Medical Device (RMD) Committee, Environment of Care (EOC) Rounds; and the Enterprise Equipment Request (EER) Committee. The Chief of SPS must establish and maintain effective relationships with all levels of medical center personnel and relate effectively with customers, families, and the community as well as program and service leaders at the local and network levels. Key relationships with staff are needed to assist SPS Assistant Managers, key personnel, and Lead Medical Staff Technicians (MST) to carry out the functions and activities expected of them. Contribute ideas and recommendations for the establishment of standards of care outcomes, policies, and objectives for the enhancement of Sterile Processing, organization wide. Assists in policy-making activities as related to customer service and the overall functioning of administrative and SPS program and collaborate with other health care staff to establish and maintain programs that cross service and/or discipline lines and influence organizational mission and health care.
The incumbent provides health system-wide leadership for critical and semicritical RMD, including sterile storage, reprocessing, standard operating procedures (SOP), competency assessment, selection, operation, and maintenance of reprocessing equipment, staff education program for RMDs, and quality management of SPS. The incumbent is responsible for assessing, monitoring, developing, and implementing corrective action plans for instrument processing, decontamination, sterilization, storage, biological monitoring, and high-level disinfection monitoring through an SPS Quality Management System.
