Key Responsibilities

• Dispense prescription medications accurately and efficiently, ensuring compliance with all legal and ethical guidelines

• Serve as liaison between the Office of Information Technology (OIT), Agency Offices, Divisions and Stakeholders on programmatic guidance of various disciplines including pharmacy, laboratory, and radiology/imaging to ensure data and informatics programs are considered in health information technology system programming, selection and configuration.
• Coordinate clinical informatics collaboration with performance standards with Indian Health Service, Tribal and Urban entities on data standard developments and provide oversight of advisory groups and health information technology software and application programming and development for interface and integration between clinical practice and information systems.

• Evaluate, transcribe and interpret physician’s prescription order (written and verbal) for appropriateness of drug therapy to include evaluation of the drug selected and the regimen prescribed (dose, frequency, duration).
• Interview patients to assess for drug allergies and past adverse medication reactions.
• Screen for drug interaction and review pertinent laboratory results, when necessary, as part of the prescription verification process.
• Conduct medication reconciliation, review the prescription profile for redundant therapies, and discontinue medications with remaining refills when appropriate.
• Document pharmaceutical care activities in the medical record as appropriate.
