The Role

The successful candidate will assume operational responsibility for our UKAS accredited Biochemistry laboratories, located in Winchester at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital (RHCH) and at the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital (BNHH) and will be responsible for Biochemistry Quality Management as well as Specimen Reception. The Successful candidate will be required to participate in the 24/7 out of hours Operational manager on-call rota and travel between Trust sites as required. You will be required to maintain your biochemistry competencies to provide shift cover in an emergency.

The Microbiology Department at Hampshire Hospitals has been very proactive and innovative in the field of Infection Science. We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to assist in leading our team.

The successful candidate will have experience in leading effective teams and, whilst a background in Biomedical Science would be preferable, it is not an essential requirement for this role. The post will be based in the Microbiology Laboratory at the Basingstoke site but also covers the Essential Services Laboratory (ESL) and the new and innovative Molecular Hub on the Winchester site. The Departmental team includes Medical Microbiology Consultants, Registrars, Junior doctors, Clinical Scientists as well as the Biomedical Scientists and laboratory support staff.

The post holder's responsibilities will cover multiple areas including the main Microbiology laboratory, molecular laboratories, Serology and the trusts' new Outpatient Parenteral Antibiotic Therapy (OPAT) service. They will be expected to support and provide a range of management functions for the department including HR, Quality Management, IT, Health and Safety and procurement and will deputise for the Department Manager when required.

The role
As a Finance Manager you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You will be responsible for the financial management of the Military Flying Training System (MFTS) contract, a key role within the business focused on increased controls around budgeting, forecasting and reporting.

Day to day, you'll be the link between finance and the operational delivery of the contract, ensuring that cost drivers from the operations are properly understood and communicated to the business. Key duties will include:

• Production of timely and technically accurate contract/site accounts, budgets, forecasts and strategic plans including variance analysis
• Business Partner with the operational teams holding them to account with their forecasts and budgets
• Establish, create and maintain appropriate processes to ensure effective financial and business controls
• Preparation of contract review presentations identifying future opportunities and risk
• Providing and managing any contractual financial information e.g. any finance information to be provided as part of contractual reporting to customer such as gain share submissions, PPC reporting, KPIs etc
• Line management and oversight of MFTS Management Accountant

This role is a full-time position and will be hybrid role with regular attendance at our Lakeside offices in Portsmouth, with occasional travel required to other offices/operational sites as required.

Essential experience of the Finance Manager:

• Demonstrable experience in a similar Finance Manager or leadership role
• Strong finance business partner experience, including ability to concisely present complex financial information
• Strong IT skills, in particular Excel to intermediate / advanced level
• Experienced in the use of Finance systems (e.g. SAP, Navision, IFS or similar)
• Long-term contract accounting experience (highly desirable)

Qualifications for the Finance Manager:

• Recognised Accountancy qualification (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent)
• Degree level education (desirable)

The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC level security clearance for this role.
