SUMMARY: The primary purpose of this position is to serve as Education Program Manager at National Defense University for the China Aerospace Studies Institute (CASI); support the vision of the CASI Director; develops and evaluates curricula, teaching procedures, and educational materials on Chinese aerospace activities for the Department of the Air Force; directs and conducts formal, informal, and agile education for the National Defense University, the DoD, and other schools as directed; supports research on Chinese aerospace activities; conducts engagement and outreach with external partners in government, industry, and academia; provides direction and leadership to local CASI staff. DUTIES:

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the lead Training Specialist and subject matter expert for all mission-critical accident investigative and technical training agencywide.

Duties performed:

• Developing a comprehensive curriculum for training accident investigators and technical support personnel to be implemented utilizing a variety of platforms (i.e. in-person, virtual, interactive multimedia, job aids, on-the-job training facilities, etc.).
• Serving as an instructional advisor on the development and implementation of training curricula for accident investigation professional and technical career development.

The Associate Director Education supports the Deputy Director and the Senior Consultant for Operations in overseeing SPP Education and is responsible for coordinating and supporting VHA's National Strategy for Preventing Veteran Suicide and develops national suicide prevention training and education as well as recommends policy, programming and planning actions, and strategic guidance for suicide prevention for the Department of Veterans Affairs. The Associate Director Education provides support to the operationalization of the VA's 10-year National Strategy and its four major domains (Healthy & Empowered Communities, Clinical & Community Prevention Services, Treatment & Support Services, Surveillance, Research & Evaluation) through the SP NOW initiative.

The incumbent is responsible for the advancement of the translation of new suicide prevention initiatives into educational resources across the VA system and works closely with the Rocky Mountain MIRECC and VISN 2 CoE for Suicide Prevention in the translation process. The Associate Director Education is responsible for ensuring national rollout of initiatives are in alignment with implementation science principles and include interface with a wide range of clinical and administrative offices within VHA. These initiatives embody the mission to make "suicide prevention everyone's business" by co-leading the integration of suicide prevention into the broad VHA health care continuum.

The Associate Director Education will provide primary leadership to the Education team within the SPP office, leading the national suicide prevention education and training program as well as development of a policy and legislative agenda. The work directed is, administrative, technical, and complex. The incumbent adheres to local and national VA policies, often consulting with peers on professional and technical matters. The incumbent assists the Senior Consultant of Operations with complex reviews of effectiveness, efficiency and productivity of suicide prevention office efforts and develops detailed plans, goals, and objectives for the long-range implementation and administration of the program, which has wide ranging impact on other VA and national level programming.

The incumbent uses critical decision-making skills to prioritize difficult needs and solve problems quickly, logically, and accurately. Employs good judgment, initiative, and creativity in independent and collaborative problem solving and in designing solutions when guidelines do not exist or apply or where gaps exist. In this way, the Associate Director Education, under the supervision of the Senior Consultant for Operations, affects the workings of SPP and the outcomes for Veterans and stakeholders. This work includes developing new ways to resolve major administrative problems or planning the most significant administrative management aspects to ensure successful program implementation.

Conducts needs assessments to identify organizational training needs, requirements, and priorities; consults with Senate managers and supervisors on development needs; designs performance improvement strategies to address identified needs. Serves as project lead in training and development projects; manages internal and vendor staff on training projects. Provides meeting/retreat planning and facilitation in DC and state offices. Designs and develops specific training materials and guides as well as live and online training for staff. Reviews evaluations and incorporates feedback to make necessary changes to training and other programs. Provides consultation, documentation, and training to project teams for various products and processes. Other duties as assigned.

The ideal applicant will have experience conducting research on Congress and American national government including on one or more of the issues listed above, and must be able to work as part of a collaborative team. The Research Assistant will support CRS analysts in their objective, nonpartisan public policy analysis for and consultation with congressional clients. 

The duties of the Research Assistant include:

• Oversees attorneys providing legal advice and assistance to OPC investigators, reviewing investigative work-product, and preparing reports of investigation and recommendations, including for disciplinary action.

The Education Specialist assists the Exhibits and Education staff in educational programs that fulfill the CVC’s mission. This includes developing new educational programs for the visiting public (adults, families, students, groups and international visitors), teaching or delivering educational programs, assisting with the evaluation of educational programs, identifying necessary supplies, organizing the storage of educational supplies and working with special events staff to arrange spaces for educational activities. Work on weekends, evenings and holidays is required, as needed.

The individual selected for this position will:

Educational Program Development and Work

• Present existing educational programs and develop and facilitate new educational programs that fulfill the mission of the CVC.
• Work with other Education Specialists; Educational Program Manager; Adult, Family, and Youth Program Coordinator; Exhibits and Education Division; Volunteer Coordinator and other Visitor Services staff to implement educational programs and projects in line with AOC policies and CVC procedures and practices.
• Develop and offer formal and informal educational programs and hands-on activities for various audiences; Exhibition Hall and Democracy Lab; and other venues including assisting with volunteer training, creating content for interpretive signs and coordinating materials preparation and classroom, cart or venue set-up. • In collaboration with other EED and Special Events staff, ensures proper set-up and take-down of educational exhibits, as requested, including working with Special Events staff to request proper amount and configuration of tables and chairs, providing needed educational supplies and equipment and setting up appropriate signs alerting people to programs.

• Actively communicates educational offerings to visitors within the CVC and the AOC, in accordance with policy and procedure.
