Digital Twin of Eye is a Modeling and Simulation (M&S) driven research and development project, specifically in the area of computational human eye model development to support R&D device / therapy development and interaction with human eye.

Key Responsibilities:

• Drive our vision to develop digital twin of eye, a set of physically realistic multi-physics simulation models of human eye, that will enable accurate modeling of key aspects of ocular physiology pertaining to the interaction of the human eye with Alcon's products and systems.

• Establish future strategy and direction for digital twin of eye modeling project in alignment with R&D’s strategic plans within multiple technology platforms.

• As an expert in computational modeling and simulation (FEA and CFD) drive innovation and ensure high quality decision making through effective application of Modeling and Simulation for the eye model

• Be able to technically assess the credibility of the computational models and develop validations and verification methods.

• Partner with Alcon key leaders and senior team members to develop digital twin eye work plans and objectives for establishing models / simulations / capabilities to accomplish specific objectives for the defined area of focus in the eye.

• Develop network of external resource partners and leverage experts appropriately to accomplish work plans including - developing detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, resource plans, and status reports, conducting risk analysis and monitoring the progress of plans against project milestones and budgets.

• Serve as an SME to drive existing digital twin of eye work streams to completion, providing technical and analytical guidance to both internal and external teams.

• Ensure projects are completed on time with expected accuracy, ensure adherence to quality standards and review of project deliverables

• Analyze and document requirements by liaising with a range of users in the organization. Manage the integration of vendor tasks and tracks and review vendor deliverables

• Develop and manage interpersonal relationships to influence decisions of technical leaders and M&S analysts along with external resources.

• Responsible for successful and innovative problem solving in resolution of the most challenging issues with a customer driven focus; champion Alcon values and behaviors.

• Collaborate with and influence project leaders in simulation driven product development with accountability for outcome.

• Demonstrated 8 years of expertise in Multiphysics Simulation methods and applications to medical devices and therapies

• Experience in biological tissue modeling. Advanced knowledge of occular physiology is a plus

• Demonstrated expertise in use of various M&S tools from providers such as Ansys, Siemens, Altair to healthcare applications

Duties

Duties and responsibilities will be in accordance with Article 22.01 of the Collective Agreement. Qualifications

• A PhD in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or related field.

• After the deadline, if no qualified PhD applications have been received, those at ABD or those with a Master's degree combined with relevant experience will be considered.

• A sound knowledge of R or SAS program is required.

• Demonstrated success in teaching undergraduate university students.

• Online teaching experience is an asset including some experience with online delivery tools (MS Teams, Brightspace, LifeSize, etc.) is also desirable.

Responsibilities:

• Primary function is to manage activities associated with software changes for a variety of medical device systems.

• Manages/coordinates updates performed by development team, and incorporates updates to software, as needed.

• Ability to manage multiple small-scale projects, or a few larger projects at one time.

• Collaborate closely with software development teams (both on-shore and off-shore), Technical Support, Field Service, Manufacturing, Product Security, Clinical and other organizations to accomplish necessary software changes initiated by reported anomalies, changes in use-cases, material or hardware changes that impact software, cybersecurity, regulatory updates, and other.

• Troubleshoot, and define solutions to meet expectations, and incorporate changes according to defined processes and procedures, in line with industry standards and regulations.

• Maintain configuration management and change control according to the associated product Configuration Management Plan and Change Control procedures.

• Assure compliance to software release procedures for post-Market changes to on-market products.

• Interact with outside vendors, write/modify/convey requirements, and be able to identify and hold outside vendors accountable for their deliverables.

• On a regular basis, monitor project activities and report status, including feedback on blockers, potential changes to project scope and activities, and recommended solutions as appropriate.

Experience

• BS in Computer Science or other related discipline with 3 years’ experience; or 7 years of relevant experience

• Must have experience leading software development change activities or proven leadership abilities.

• Must understand software design control and be familiar with product-level design control.

• Prefer C++ and C# development experience, and familiarity with object-oriented software design.

• Ability to work cross-functionally with a variety of stakeholders.

• Ability to work independently, proactively identify issues, recommend, and implement solutions, and deliver quality results on schedule while managing multiple tasks and internal customers. Understanding of Window operating environments (Win10, Win7, etc.).

• Experience with one or more software configuration management systems and related tools, such as: Confluence, Jenkins, AWS DevOps, Jira, Git, GitHub, TFS Knowledge of networking and cybersecurity concepts are a plus.

• Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio, ADO, or other integrated development environment (IDE) tool.

• Familiar with FDA/ISO regulations for software development, including IEC 62304 Solid understanding of Software Development Lifecycle Management (SDLC) – (Agile/Scrum, iterative).

• Excellent interpersonal & Communication skills to build positive departmental and inter-departmental relationships in a virtual, remote, and asynchronous environment.

Major Accountabilities

• Provide leadership to achieve goals aligned with franchise and organizational objectives

• Serves as statistical programming expert within a franchise or TA to the broader Alcon

• Manage global associates in different Alcon locations including but not limited to Alcon Global Services centers worldwide

• Interact with external consultant(s) and contractors to develop technology and conduct and/or lead necessary research leading to device commercialization.
• Generate and analyze data from laboratory and simulation and provide technical guidance.
• Provide device technical support and be accountable for all device engineering related deliverables within the assigned projects’ activities, according to regulatory and mandatory industry performance standards.
• Design, generate, analyze, and report data from laboratory and simulation and provide technical guidance in support of global product development and registration including any testing required to support global registration.
• Hands-on experience in design and execution of experiments.
• Possess a comprehensive knowledge of device development, material properties, fluid mechanics, and critical quality attributes that can impact the performance of the products.
• Support and lead the device related regulatory document preparation for registration dossiers and brand related medical information, communication, publications (510(k), CE Mark, Japan, CTD’s, Envisa’s, NDA, IND, etc) Ensuring timely responses to Health Authorities questions for support of regulatory dossiers.
• Support and lead the device(s) related document preparation for Investigator Brochures (IB) in support of clinical studies.
• Support existing device and ophthalmic packaging by addressing select product support requests and addressing questions on existing products.

Key Responsibilities:

•        Apply in-depth knowledge of surgical instrumentation domain as subject matter expert across a range of engineering disciplines including Mechanical, Optomechanical, Lasers, Optical, Fiber Optics, Microscope and ophthalmic related Diagnostic & Visualization devices.

•        Conduct design, research, development, and process upscaling for new medical device products.

•        Investigate and evaluate existing technology and designs new methodology, materials, machines, or processes as needed for Ophthalmic medical device development.

•        Design, assembly, alignment, measurement, testing, analysis, and troubleshooting of illumination and visualization devices.

•        Perform Opto-mechanical design including lens housing design, lens bonding and mounting techniques, and opto-mechanical analysis including thermal, environmental, shock & vib, system integration and stability tolerance study.

•        Understand operation principles for optomechanical and electromechanical actuators and sensors and integrate these within complex sub-systems.

•        Generate detailed fabrication drawings with including GD&T and tolerance analysis.

•        Support medical device development activities such as prototyping and testing, pilot builds, V&V, risk assessment, and ramp-up to production validation.

•        Develop assembly and alignments fixtures for prototype fabrication and create associated processes.

•        Support concurrent engineering activities, design control and transition to manufacturing.

•        Technical lead for new product development ensuring that design activities are conducted following Alcon SOPs.

•        Derive product design requirements based on top-level commercial input.

•        Identify technical, project schedule, and commercial viability risks.

•        Run cross-functional design trade-off and technical reviews to drive design decisions.

•        Work effectively with cross-functional development teams including Optics, EE, SW, QA, and Mfg functions.

•        Team player/collaboration aptitude with strong sense of accountability and perseverance to see projects through to completion.

•        Contribute to ideation, patent portfolio and strategy development.

Preferred Experiences and Skill Sets

•        Proficiency in CREO (Pro-E), SolidWorks, or Equivalent CAD skills in PLM or Windchill environment.

•        Knowledge of optical design tool such as ZEMAX, Code V, Light Tools.

•        Proficiency in opto-mechanical design, tolerance analysis, design for athermalization, bonding and assembly processes.

•        Experience with FEA tool such as ANSYS, and familiar with MATLAB, LabView.

•        Experience with Class 3B and Class 4 lasers and related fiber optics for delivery and single-use devices.

•        Solid understanding of Design Controls according to 21 CFR 820 or ISO 13485.

•        Proficient in Failure Mode Effects Analysis and Risk Management application to medical devices.

•        Industry standard tools and methods for optical, mechanical and optomechanical engineering is essential.

•        Domain knowledge in Lasers, Photonics, Optics, Optomechanics, and Fiber Optics.

•        Optical and Optomechanical metrology and testing practices.

•        Understanding of architecture design, requirements and risk management, medical device V&V, reprocessing, and single-use devices.

•        Development of laser systems, fiber optic energy delivery devices, fiber optic probes, or fiber optic illuminators.

•        Broad knowledge of precision manufacturing techniques and familiarity with assembly of micro-optical and miniature optomechanical components.

•        Biomedical product or medical device development experience.

As the R&D Buyer IOD supporting the Research and Development Team, you will be responsible for leading and driving the buying activities for R&D projects across multiple categories (e.g. Labs Services, Chemicals, Equipment, Packaging, etc.) within the eye care industry. This position will work closely with key business partners to develop effective cost reduction strategies and implementation plans with a focus on reducing total cost of ownership while optimizing supplier performance in Fort Worth, Texas!

Key Responsibilities:

• Optimize procurement activities to ensure materials availability while minimizing inventory costs.
• Supervise and lead delivery of raw materials and services to meet R&D project goals and objectives.
• Actively works to support the development of new technologies and supplier capabilities.
• Lead new supplier introduction by populating address, bank details, contact info, tax info, goods or services offered, risk assessment into SAP Ariba.
• Develop, monitor, and report supplier performance with KPI's including benchmarking with other companies/industries.
• Drive root cause investigation of supplier issues through the use of corrective and preventative action (CAPA).
• Provide support for invoice queries.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities to acquire the best value for Alcon.
• Be proficient at oral / written communication in order to optimally explain sophisticated ideas and approaches to a wide audience.
• May participate as an active member of project core teams to develop and deliver upon project schedules.
• Maintains accurate inventory management, material tracking.
• Knowledge of ISO, FDA, MDD and regulations applicable to the design and development of Interocular devices.
• Experience working with large data sets and being able to interpret the data to make recommendations and/or decisions from the data.
• Experience working in Microsoft Excel, SAP, SAP Business Intelligence, Tableau.

Key Requirements/Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +10 yrs; Assoc.+6 yrs; M.S.+0 yrs).
• The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English.
• 2 years of Proven Experience.

The Short Story

Compensation

Effective September 1, 2023 - $7,253.48 per half course (195 hours nominally)
Effective September 1, 2023 - $14,506.95 per full course (390 hours nominally)

Please note: Instructors who are employed in a 2-hour/week lecture, or the equivalent of a 2-hour/week lecture, are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course.

Duties

Duties and responsibilities will be in accordance with Article 22.01 of the Collective Agreement. This nominal workload is normally made up of scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time. The non-classroom time is made up of preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking or grading and course administration, including grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty.  In addition, creating a course syllabus to be approved by the Department Chair.

Qualifications

1. A PhD complete or near complete in English Literature (defense date set)

2. Demonstrated scholarly competency and currency in Short Stories

3. Evidence of successful teaching short fiction in a post-secondary setting.

In this role, a typical day will include:

• Direct submission development of product registration, progress reports, supplements, amendments, and/or periodic experience reports
• Stay ahead of changing global labeling requirements and communicate those changes within GRA and to cross-functional colleagues.
• Responsible for Corporate RA SOPs regarding labeling and sets boundaries and/or coordinate with RA affiliates on local labeling procedures. Own RA Labeling process and current project work under project Clear.
• Represent RA in the Labeling Change Review Board.
• Be the counterpart to the GSC Labeling Head and be involved with cross-functional decisions and critical issue pathways.
• Share responsibility with GRA strategists for decision-making on bundling and/or deferring proposed label changes, and/or deviations to label requirements.
• Coordinate and lead close partnership with the GRA team and support a broad portfolio for Labeling.
• Anticipate and provide assessments of changing regulations and mentorship and identify any required changes to internal Labeling policies and processes as the Labeling RA SME.
• Develop and lead global Labeling regulatory strategies to improve the value of the portfolio.
