This position is responsible for the overall planning, development, and oversight of the Trauma Injury Prevention Program as well as trauma education for the Adult Trauma Programs at Albany Medical Center. The objectives of the program are to educate AMC staff and the community about injury prevention and trauma care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist Trauma Program Manager with development and implementation of injury prevention programs
• Serve as a resource for trauma care and injury prevention education to nursing staff, pre-hospital personnel, and community groups
• Conduct community education programs for diverse populations and coordinate responses to requests for injury prevention information
• Collaborate with other departments within the institution on programs for trauma education and injury prevention, including Emergency Department, EMS Outreach, and Rehabilitation services
• Serves as the lead trauma program coordinator overseeing screening and brief intervention (SBIRT)
• Develop and maintain a public presence for the prevention program
• Develop brochures, audiovisual aids, and presentation handouts as necessary
• Act as a spokesperson for injury and trauma prevention issues
• Act as a liaison to other hospitals and community groups for trauma prevention and outreach
• Identify, pursue, and obtain sources of program support and/or grant funding
• Establish and implement strategies for continuous improvement
• Plan and coordinate Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) courses
• Organize and facilitate the annual Trauma Symposium
• Maintain organized documentation of trauma education and injury prevention activities related to the Albany Med Trauma Program

Qualifications

This project is closely linked to exciting new Scottish legislation, the Good Food Nation (Scotland) Act, and aims to support its ongoing implementation. Led by University of Edinburgh Business School, our transdisciplinary team brings together academic, governmental, public sector and 3rd sector partners with expertise in nutrition and public health, environmental modelling, public food procurement, food policy and governance, anthropology, and sociology, of food, food and procurement law, social policy, behavioural change, and food systems transformation.



This post is advertised as full-time (35 hours per week) however, we are open to considering part-time (4-5 days) and/or flexible working patterns. Robotics and Autonomous Systems (RAS) is a highly interdisciplinary field of research, encompassing innovations in hardware design, techniques for perception, planning and control, all of which are increasingly being transformed by emerging advances in Artificial Intelligence, and finally user-centred development of interfaces and interaction methods.

The School of Informatics is seeking to extend its teaching and research in robotics, with a particular focus on integrated approaches to complete robotic systems motivated by emerging applications of broad societal relevance. As a result of sustained efforts over the years, and through our involvement in the Edinburgh Centre for Robotics, we occupy a leadership position in the Robotics and Autonomous Systems space. Our RAS activities include a Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) and Data-Driven Innovation (DDI) initiatives with the Bayes Centre and National Robotarium (based in Heriot Watt University, jointly operated with the University of Edinburgh). Following the creation and appointment of a new Chair in Robot Systems, we are now inviting applications for an academic post at the Lecturer/Reader level to support this expansion.

We seek candidates who are emerging leaders engaged in research and teaching in robotics and autonomous systems. The successful candidate will have a vision for how to develop robotic systems in the context of emerging and established application areas, both as a field and within the Edinburgh ecosystem. As well as contributing to research in and beyond the School of Informatics, the candidate will contribute to postgraduate teaching, undergraduate courses, curriculum development and the supervision of PhD students. The successful candidate will work together with Dr Duncan on a variety of projects with the forthcoming ORCHIDSS ESO Community Survey, depending on their research experience and interests. They will also have the opportunity to develop their own research projects with access to a wide range of multi-wavelength observations such as the MIGHTEE and LOFAR (2.0) extragalactic radio surveys, the WEAVE-LOFAR spectroscopic survey (deputy PI: Duncan), the JWST PRIMER/JELS imaging surveys and associated spectroscopic follow-up campaigns.

We are looking for a driven and enthusiastic post-doctoral researcher interested in working on the post-transcriptional roles of Helix-Turn-Helix transcription factors in an important bacterial pathogen (MRSA).

The Opportunity:

We recently found that many Helix-Turn-Helix domain transcription factors (HTH-TFs) from methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus also globally bind RNA in vivo. Some HTH-TFs have well-established transcriptional roles in regulating MRSA infectivity and antibiotic resistance. Moreover, the transcription activity of numerous HTH-TFs can be controlled by small molecules, making them promising targets for developing novel antimicrobials.

Our data indicate that the regulatory impact of HTH-TFs is much more profound than anticipated, underscoring the need for a thorough characterisation of these proteins. We hypothesise that HTH-TFs post-transcriptionally control a substantial fraction of antibiotic resistance and virulence factors by altering the stability/translation of RNA substrates. RNA may also compete with HTH-TF transcriptional activities.

By integrating state-of-the-art biochemical, structural, and phenotypic approaches, you will obtain detailed mechanistic insights into (i) how key HTH-TFs bind both DNA and RNA molecules, (ii) how small molecule effectors control this activity, and (iii) how these RNA-binding activities impact gene expression during host infection. A detailed understanding of MRSA HTH-TF function and how its nucleic acid binding is regulated may underpin future therapeutic approaches.

Experience in structural and biophysical characterisation of protein-nucleic acid interactions.
Experience with analysis of large datasets using Python and/or R.
Demonstrated background in RNA Biology research.
Experience in biochemical approaches for studying protein-nucleic acid interactions.
