About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Faculty of Construction and the Built Environment at Exeter College working as part of the Professional Studies department which includes Civil Engineering, Building Services and Construction Mangement. This department has seen huge growth in apprentices and full-time learners as well as substantial investment into staff, facility and equipment over the last few years and this role is to support this growth. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone with industry experience in Civils/Construction with a can-do attitude, offering excellent prospects for personal development.

The role focuses on supporting the teaching, learning and assessment activities that take place within the workshop for both 6th form learners and apprentices. This includes preparation of materials for use, maintaining and developing a safe and stimulating learning and working environments, issuing and ordering of tools and equipment, manufacturing of products to support assessment using machinery and for more confident/experienced staff there will also be opportunities to teach. This will be via a development programme where you will receive a mentor and undertake a L3 teaching qualification funded by the college, with excellent progression routes.

Faculty of Health and Life Sciences



The Faculty wishes to recruit two Postdoctoral Research Associates to support the work of Dr Craig Beall and Dr Tom Piers. These externally funded posts are available from 1st October 2024 on a fixed-term basis of initially one year, with a second year of funding to be released after a satisfactory progress report at nine months.



The successful applicants will perform laboratory-based research using cell culture models to investigate cell therapies for Type 1 Diabetes. Candidates with prior experience in diabetes research or neuroscience/stem cell biology are encouraged to apply but candidates with relevant experience from other disciplines are also encouraged to apply. We are also recruiting a graduate research assistant in this round (advert reference P96792), to support the project and the work of the two postdoctoral researchers.



The post will include performing 2D and 3D tissue culture using human cell models. There will also be work using organoid and organ-on-a-chip to develop advanced human-relevant in vitro models.



A significant component of work will require experience of cell biology including imaging studies, ELISAs and multiplexing, cell signalling and cell-to-cell communication.



Some intercampus travel may be required.

The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals, reports and applications to external bodies.



Applicants will possess a relevant PhD (or nearing completion) or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. Applicants will be able to work to agreed timelines and milestones and maintain excellent written records and excellent interpersonal skills to coordinate activities with the other team members directly involved in this project.

The role of the Regional Research Specialty Leads is primarily to support research delivery within health and care settings, however on occasion the Leads will be asked to support wider NIHR and DHSC activities. The duties and responsibilities are grouped to reflect these two aspects. Regional Research Specialty Leads will be expected to attend regional and national meetings and events. Primary Role Strategic oversight of the regional RRDN Portfolio. Support regional portfolio oversight activities undertaken on the current portfolio as requested and in collaboration with the RDN Study Support Service. Identify and address impact on regional health and social inequalities at all stages of research delivery within your Specialty. Support the RDN Study Support Service in the planning, placement and performance monitoring of studies, including when requested: Assist in the identification of sites and Principal Investigators making the best use of data combined with an understanding of health and social inequalities to inform placement of studies. Undertake eligibility reviews. Providing health and/or care intelligence to the on request study performance service[1] and the Active National Delivery service. Support funders and sponsors in study design to optimise deliverability, including providing early feedback on protocols. Advise on study deliverability and undertake deliverability assessments when requested, including giving consideration to equitable community-wide access/areas of high patient need. Building regional capacity and capability for study delivery in your Specialty.
