An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Employability Bridgend as a Skills Trainer (a Shared Prosperity Fund project). The project aims to tackle the barriers that prevent individuals from accessing the labour market before matching local people with businesses, helping them gain vital experience to find long-term employment.

The successful applicants for this key post will work alongside other Skills Trainers. You will be an enthusiastic, motivated team worker who will plan, organise, deliver and evaluate sessions/courses at various venues throughout the county thus helping to deliver a successful Employability Bridgend project.

A 15-month fixed term full time Postdoctoral Research Association (PDRA) position is available in the Department of Geography at Durham University. The successful candidate will join the project 'Greenland Ice Sheet and sea-level response under climate change from AD 1600 to 2100'. The project is led at Durham by Professor Sarah Woodroffe and is funded by the UK Natural Environment Research Council.

As a PDRA on this project, the successful applicant will be required to develop relative sea-level reconstructions over the past few hundred years from salt-marshes in Greenland using diatoms as the main proxy, alongside XRF and other stratigraphic methods. These reconstructions will be compared to relative sea-level predictions from new Greenland-wide models of ice sheet change developed by collaborators on the project from Lincoln and Northumbria Universities. The main responsibilities will be to develop new modern and fossil diatom datasets from Greenland saltmarshes and statistical and chronological models that allow quantitative relative sea-level reconstructions from sites around the west coast of Greenland. A further responsibility will be to write applications for radiocarbon dating support, to prepare data, figures and text for publication and to communicate the interim and final findings of the research at collaborator workshops and international science meetings.

This is a great opportunity to work as part of a friendly team on a cutting-edge project. The PDRA will have access to outstanding resources including laboratory and microscope facilities and travel funding for conferences and collaboration.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in developing relative sea-level reconstructions using diatom data and application of quantitative methods of RSL reconstruction. Previous experience working in salt-marshes would be an advantage.

The Role

This role will provide dedicated support for monitoring and review of internal and external datasets such as B3 and TEF metrics from the OfS (manipulating and analysing data, producing monitoring reports, and providing committees, departments and services with appropriate analysis). The post holder will support AQS' annual review and monitoring processes, providing data and guidance for academic departments, and undertaking analysis and reporting of departmental responses. The post holder will liaise with key colleagues in cognate offices (including Student Registry), to support interrogation, analysis and dissemination of centrally held datasets.

The post holder will also provide education policy support for the office, analysing regulations, external guidance and data, taking the lead on relevant areas of policy/process development, and supporting committees and working groups, as agreed with their line manager and/or the Head of section. This will involve liaising with senior members of staff within the Education Division (e.g. Heads of Service, Academic Registrar, PVC and Deputy PVC Education) and across the University, as necessary.

This post is being made available as a development role at Grade 6 in the first instance and, in addition to meeting the requirements of the role as it stands, the successful candidate will demonstrate that they have the ability and potential to development the necessary knowledge and skills require of a Grade 7 position. Upon appointment, a development plan will be created with input from the successful candidate, focussing on the requirements of the Grade 7 role, and taking into account their individual needs. The postholder will also manage the University's engagement with the National Student Survey (engaging with OfS and Ipsos Mori; working with colleagues in departments & marketing and communications regarding publicity; managing the dissemination and analysis of results; providing reports to senior officers and committees) and other educational surveys. The role will undertake policy analysis and reporting in relation to the Office for Students, QAA and other external bodies, and comparators, writing reports for committees and groups as required.

The role will also provide education policy support for the office, analysing regulations, external guidance and data, taking the lead on relevant areas of policy/process development, and supporting committees and working groups, as agreed with their line manager and/or the Head of section. This will involve liaising with senior members of staff within the Education Division (e.g. Heads of Service, Academic Registrar, PVC and Deputy PVC Education) and across the University, as necessary.

This post is being made available as a development role at Grade 6 in the first instance and, in addition to meeting the requirements of the role as it stands, the successful candidate will demonstrate that they have the ability and potential to development the necessary knowledge and skills require of a Grade 7 position. Upon appointment, a development plan will be created with input from the successful candidate, focussing on the requirements of the Grade 7 role, and taking into account their individual needs. This plan will be regularly reviewed and will form the basis of an assessment to move to the Grade 7 role. It is anticipated that the development process will take 2 years to complete; however, it may be extended if the University considers it necessary. If the post-holder was unable to meet the full requirements of the Grade 7 post at the end of the development process then, subject to performance, they may be retained in the Grade 6 post.
