Are you an experienced Assessor, Trainer or Tutor looking for a new challenge in an Outstanding organisation?
Due to continuous growth, Barnsley College has a rare, yet exciting opportunity for a new Childcare Trainer / Assessor within our Health, Science and childcare department. Our new Childcare assessor will work in collaboration with fellow teaching staff and employers to maximise the development of knowledge, skills and behaviours for learners undertaking a childcare course.
In this rewarding role, you'll support learners in the workplace by planning, coordinating, assessing, and reviewing their learning activities. You'll manage a caseload of learners, organise workplace assessments and meetings with employers, help learners join the programme, and assist them in securing work placements with local employers. Creating individual learning plans and conducting work-based assessments, you’ll play a key role in helping students succeed.
This role is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about shaping the next generation of childcare professionals. As a Trainer – Childcare (Learning Assessor), you’ll work directly with learners in real-world settings, helping them build essential skills and develop their careers. You’ll have the chance to make a real impact, guiding and supporting learners as they gain qualifications and practical experience, and helping them achieve their goals.
The successful candidate will spend most of their time in the workplace assessing the progress of students against the key learning outcomes for their qualifications.

About you
We’re seeking a motivated and experienced Trainer, Assessor, or Tutor with a strong background in childcare to join our Outstanding organisation. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in assessing or training learners, particularly in childcare, and will be passionate about helping students develop essential skills, knowledge, and behaviours.
You’ll excel in managing a caseload, organising workplace visits, and building positive relationships with employers, demonstrating strong organisational and communication skills. A collaborative approach is key, as you’ll work closely with teaching staff and employers, while flexibility and adaptability are essential for this variable hours role. Required
• Level 3 qualification in a relevant field
• GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent Level 2)
• Assessor Awards
• Level 4 teaching qualification (or commitment to achieve)
