Learning Support Assistant

What skills and experience we're looking for

We are seeking to appoint two enthusiastic and hardworking Learning Support Assistants/ Mentors who can build positive working relationships with our students and support them to make great progress. Our Learning Mentors work to support students who have a range of special educational needs both in class and through small group intervention.

Our provision for students with SEND has been transformed over recent years. These posts have come about because of the promotion of some of our existing team and because we want to grow our team so that we can provide even more support. We are ambitious for all students, particularly those with SEND. Earlier this year our SEND Team moved into our new purpose built accommodation. What the school offers its staff

We have an outstanding SEND Team who go above and beyond to meet the needs of students who need something ‘additional and different’ in school. Learning Mentors will work as part of this hardworking and dedicated team. In our recent building project we have transformed the provision for SEND students in our school. There are specialist facilities to support students with a wide range of SEND needs and we have significantly improved the accessibility for students with disabilities.

The team are currently trained to deliver a number of interventions outside of the classroom covering all four broad areas of need including literacy and numeracy, as well as, ELSA, Drawing and talking, Social Group therapy and active listening for active learning. The Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to provide technical support and data handling for the research being conducted at SRUC’s Dairy Research & Innovation Centre in Dumfries. The successful candidate will have relevant technical experience in cattle husbandry, operation of specialist farm recording equipment and farm data handling. Experience of recording and sample collection for scientific research would be beneficial.

Key areas of work of this Technician post will include:

• Liaising with research staff, external project partners and farm staff to co-ordinate research activity
  
• Collecting project data, data entry and database uploads, ensuring all data meets QA standards
  
• Control and maintenance of research facilities and equipment, including for sampling, sample preparation, processing and analyses e.g., intake feed bins, calf feeder units, cattle shedder, Greenfeed systems

Outdoor Education Assistant

Teaching personnel are looking to appoint a keen and motivated outdoor education assistant to work in a vibrant and passionate SEN school provision. We are looking for a candidate who has a passion for working with pupils with social and emotional needs, particularly children with ASD and SEMH.

The applicant will need to be focused and able to manage pupil behaviour positively. Candidates should be highly experienced with a natural ability to work within the staff environment. You will be expected to have previous experience of working with children in the outdoor education and learning sector.
