Learning Support Assistant
Term time only – full time / part-time

We are looking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant to provide support for students across Key Stage 3 to 5. Working with classroom teachers and the SENCO, you will provide in and out of class support to students who are learning in a highly academic environment. You will be responsive to the individual needs of students and ensure they are able to access the curriculum and all learning activities and experiences. A key part of the role is to enhance and develop the independence of SEND students.
The successful candidate may work with students who have been identified by the SENCO as needing additional support e.g. students with dyslexia, ADHD or with ASC. You may also be required to support students 1:1 or in small groups to work on social stories, communication skills, emotional regulation and study skills. Experience in these areas would therefore also be advantageous.
Strong communication skills are essential, and experience of working with young people in a school setting would be particularly desirable. Part of the role will be to provide administrative support to the SENCO and so some administrative experience would therefore be useful.
The working hours are usually 08.15 to 15.15 (6.5 hours per day excluding 30-minute break). The actual minimum number of hours/days will be discussed with candidate at interview stage.

The successful candidate will work with students on a one to one and small group basis providing breakout opportunities from the classroom to deepen understanding and further progress.

In addition, the successful candidate will work with students who access our inclusion unit to support them with learning to aid a smooth transition back into the classroom.

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Specialist Teacher of SEND to join our team at Laidlaw Schools Trust to support the delivery and development of a comprehensive SEND service across the whole of the Laidlaw Schools Trust (currently 11 Academies).

Reporting to the Trust’s Educational Psychologist there will also be an opportunity to gain deeper knowledge and understanding of psychological principles and techniques to support the educational and developmental needs of children and young people and help promote the use of inclusive, evidence-based practices to help children, young people, parents and education professionals to overcome barriers to educational achievement, social and emotional well-being and mental health.

The successful individual will be a qualified teacher with experience working with students (any age between 4-16) with a wide range of special educational needs.
