Ty Gwyn Education Centre is a secondary age Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) located in a newly refurbished building in the Aberdare area, serving the whole of RCT and learners from age 11 to 16 years.
Ty Gwyn Education Centre offers specialist provision for up to 60 learners with behavioural, emotional and social needs that cannot be met in their mainstream school. Learners are a mixture of full and part time (KS3 only) and access a broad and balanced curriculum of core subjects (English, Maths and Science) and a range of vocational and foundation subjects. There is a growing emphasis on developing learner wellbeing and mental health and Ty Gwyn is a Trauma Informed School with a growing team of therapeutic support staff.
As an LSA, you will be supporting and guiding children and young people to make positive choices and engage in learning. You will be a role model, a lifelong learner and a trusted responsible figure. You will also have responsibility for a supporting a form group and their welfare and wellbeing and play a full part in the life of the PRU. There is a requirement to undertake some lunch and break time duties.

Job Overview
As a Learning Support Assistant, you’ll provide personalised SEN provision on a 1:1 basis, supporting the pupil in accessing the curriculum at an appropriate level and adapting the learning to make it accessible for students with specific needs. This role also involves providing pastoral support, and you’ll monitor progress to feedback to the class teacher whilst working closely with relevant staff to ensure an individual can achieve to the fullest extent.
Job Requirements
Good numeracy/literacy skills
Experience in supporting pupils with SEN and utilising strategies to manage behaviours and meet needs, including supporting speech and language
Awareness of Child Safeguarding and the latest SEN policies to implement effective provision, including working with outside agencies to deliver EHCP provisions
Ability to effectively communicate on the pupil’s progress, with strong written and verbal communication skills
