Weston College is the regional provider for the Prison Education Framework (PEF) across the South West of England and is now seeking to recruit an outstanding and highly motivated Lecturer in Construction to join the team at HMP Guys Marsh.

This is a part-time role, working 32 hours per week.

Day to day duties

Developing and maintaining a full course file including comprehensive scheme of learning and lesson planning.

Developing and completing ILPs and contextual statements to monitor individual learner progress.

Accurately completing registers, learner enrolments and completions.

Participation in all team meetings and continued professional development.

Required skills and qualifications

A Degree, or professional qualification, which is appropriate to the work.

Teaching Qualification*

Knowledge and experience of current teaching and learning strategies.

*All candidates for teaching posts must possess a recognised Teaching Qualification, or be prepared to gain within the first two years of service, with the assistance of the College.

About HMP Guys Marsh

HMP Guys Marsh is an adult male, Category C, prison. The education department offers a diverse range of courses, including bricklaying, cleaning/waste management, construction, IT, multi-skills and PSD. HMP Guys Marsh runs accredited programmes on thinking skills, drug rehabilitation and anger management. A variety of work is available to residents, including laundry, kitchen, gym and industrial cleaning. Some of this work can result in recognised external qualifications. This is a full time, permanent role.

Day to day duties of the role

To deliver a high quality curriculum delivering Barbering courses or an alternative as led by the Weston College management team.
Preparation, assessment and marking.

Required skills and qualifications

A degree, or professional qualification, which is appropriate to the work. (In relation to vocational teaching posts an appropriate qualification in that field will be deemed satisfactory).
All candidates for teaching posts must possess a recognised Teaching Qualification, or be prepared to gain within the first two years of service, with the assistance of the College.
Knowledge and experience of current teaching and learning strategies.
Excellent team working, communication and interpersonal skills.


HMP The Verne

HMP The Verne, a Category C men's prison on the Isle of Portland in Dorset, prioritises education through partnerships with Weston College and the Open University. Residents can access a robust curriculum, which includes distance learning and courses like painting, decorating, and construction. If so, Weston College may have the perfect role for you. We are looking for a Lecturer in Business and IT to join our Education Team at HMP The Verne working on an 0.85 basis (31.45 hours per week)

As a Lecturer, you will deliver Business and IT courses to the learners within the Education department at HMP The Verne. In this role you will have an outstanding opportunity to positively enhance learners’ lives.

Although having a teaching qualification would be beneficial, it is not essential as we can support to gain this whilst in post. Catering experience is necessary, and we would welcome applications from you if you have industry experience but no formal teaching experience.

You will deliver Skills to Work courses, which will allow the learners to develop the skills needed for their future careers upon release.

Although holding a teaching qualification would be beneficial in this role, it is not essential as we can support the successful post holder to gain this whilst in post. You will need to have experience in supporting learners and delivering courses which may be relevant to skills needed within a workplace.

Weston College are looking for a Lecturer in Creative Arts to join their team at HMP Portland on a part-time 80% basis, working 29.6 hours per week.

You will deliver a range of Creative Arts sessions and support the learners as they develop their creativity and confidence within this subject.

Although holding a teaching qualification would be a benefit, it is not essential as we can support you to gain this qualification whilst in post. If you have experience in delivering Creative Arts sessions to learners, we would be keen to receive your application.
