The focus of the multidisciplinary approach will be to support patients and carers to live well, prevent inappropriate hospital admission and meet their preferred priorities for care.

Macmillan Clinical Nurse Specialist in Palliative Care Band 7

An exciting opportunity has now arisen within the City Wide Manchester Macmillan Palliative Support Service for a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Palliative Care.

The post holder will work as part of the Macmillan Specialist multi-disciplinary team comprising of Medics, Dietitian, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Nurses, Speech and Language Therapist, Assistant Practitioners, Admin support and Volunteer Coordinators. The team aims to provide effective support palliative care and/or rehabilitation to patients with a life limiting condition requiring palliative intervention.

The post holder will provide supportive palliative care to enhance the quality of life for patients / carers with any life limiting illness requiring palliative care, including complex physical, psychological and emotional needs. The post holder will be expected to have extensive palliative medication knowledge to support the complex symptom management needs of the patient.

An Exciting opportunity has arisen for a Colorectal Cancer Care Coordinator. This role is to support the Colorectal Cancer Nurse Specialist Team. This is a secondment position to cover maternity leave for 12 months.

A Cancer Care Coordinator helps cancer patients navigate the complex health and social care system during and after their cancer treatment. The post holder is an important member of the team. Within the scope of the role, the Cardiothoracic Surgical Care Practitioner will deliver highly specialised pre, intra and post-operative care to patients undergoing Cardiac & Thoracic Surgery in order to provide a seamless high-quality service.


Under the direction of the consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeons the post holder will participate in operative procedures as requested and will provide expert clinical knowledge and support to both the surgeons and other theatre users.

Manchester CPGC service is for patients with a suspected solid tumour cancer, requiring specialised intervention and management. Patient samples for genomic testing will either be derived from the existing MFT internal workload or be referred by regional pathology laboratories in other trusts.

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated Advanced Biomedical Scientist, you will be experienced and operating as a Biomedical Scientist in Histopathology, in line with ISO 15189 standards, providing scientific services to customers and patients to aid pathological diagnosis.

As the Advanced Biomedical Scientist, you will work with the Lead Biomedical Scientist and the Cellular Pathology Directorate Manager, to ensure that the planning and day to day running of the department , ensuring that leadership is available, day to day and on a long-term basis.

The post-holder will also support the Lead Biomedical Scientist to provide leadership and support to the Biomedical Scientists and Support teams and will have the experience and knowledge to provide highly complex and specialist advice to Histopathology teams, you will utilise this knowledge to continually review the effectiveness and efficiency of the department and implement innovative developmental improvements and redesign as appropriate.

This post is for an Advanced Biomedical Scientist in the Cellular Pathology Genomics Centre. Suitable candidates will be enthusiastic, aspirational and highly motivated HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist with extensive post registration Histopathology experience.

Candidates must be in possession of an IBMS specialist portfolio in Cellular Pathology and obtain MSc level or equivalent. A working knowledge of quality management systems and ISO15189 standard is essential.

The department will prepare tissue for the North West Genomics Laboratory Hub to deliver combined DNA-/RNA- NGS panel analysis according to the NGTD.

You will perform immunohistochemistry and undertake neoplastic cell content assessment on tumour tissues prior to Genomics testing, and participate in the Tissue-i EQA scheme

Ensure the highest scientific standards are maintained and to contribute to the improvement of technical and scientific standards within the department.

Demonstrate extensive use of personal judgement based on advanced experience and knowledge to ensure correct decisions are made by Biomedical Scientists and support staff on all aspects of specimen processing, microscopy and test interpretation that may directly affect patient care and management.

In conjunction with the Lead Biomedical Scientist, support the management of daily functions of the department in accordance with MFT policies and procedures.

Cardiothoracic Critical Care Unit is the North West centre for Cardiopulmonary Transplantation, including the VAD (ventricular assist device) programme, an established respiratory ECMO service and as part of our heart failure service we are able to provide cardiac ECMO. It consists of a 26 bedded purpose built Cardiothoracic Critical Care Unit and 5 bedded satellite Post Operative Recovery Unit, combining both level 3 and level 2 care.

As a team, we are committed to delivering the highest standards of care, and encourage and support staff development with our excellent practice education team who provide continuous support throughout.

We are a fast paced 31 bedded critical care unit. Caring for level 3 and level 2 patients who require critical care due to surgery, trauma, heart failure and many other reasons.

Within the scope of the role, the Cardiothoracic Surgical Care Practitioner will deliver highly specialized pre, intra and post-operative care to patients undergoing Cardiac & Thoracic Surgery.


Under the direction of the consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeons the post holder will participate in operative procedures . They will act as an expert specialist resource and educator for colleagues, medical and nursing
students, patients, and families to achieve effective patient care and recovery.



The post will be paid at band 8a or band 7 this will be dependent on qualification/experience. A suitable candidate can be appointed at band 7 and will be supported on a masters pathway to progress to 8a having gained the relevant qualifications and experience

The post holder will work as an autonomous practitioner but also work closely with the consultant surgeons, specialist registrars, junior medical staff and other junior Surgical care practitioners to support the delivery of the cardiothoracic surgery program and expert specialist advice . The post
holder will be expected to perform these duties with a high degree of clinical skill and knowledge to achieve effective patient care and recovery.
The post holder would be expected to be responsible for planning and organizing a broad range of complex activities that will impact across the service. This would include supporting the development and implementation of policies and procedures.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Emergency Care Village at Wythenshawe Hospital for a Salaried General Practitioner to join the Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) team.

The UTC is co-located within the Wythenshawe adult Emergency Department. The unit provides same day assessment and treatment for patients who present with a minor illness and / or injury. The team comprises of (Advanced) Nurse Practitioners, Emergency Nurse Practitioners with medical cover from GPs. In addition, the team works very closely with the Emergency Department, secondary care, Social Services, Mental Health and other specialist services.

The Salaried General Practitioner will be a key member of the UTC and ED at Wythenshawe in providing primary medical services to patients who either self-refer or are referred to the service from ED, 111 or other health care providers.
