This is an exciting opportunity to join our Technical & Design Group to provide a quantity surveying service relating to the Council’s extensive corporate portfolio of properties.

You will be joining a Service which strives for excellence in service delivery and works well with both partner organisations and the general construction sector. You will work within a multi disciplinary environment and be responsible for cost estimating, preparation of contract documents, payments and contract administration.

As Quantity Surveyor, you will be part of the Technical & Design Group and be based partly at home and from office on a hybrid working rota basis. You shall attend sites and offices as required. You will be involved in all aspects of the traditional quantity surveying role, including procurement and contract management.

You will have an RICS accredited degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying or construction related discipline and possess chartered membership of the RICS. You should have considerable experience within the design and construction industry, experience of computerised billing systems, and preferably have knowledge of public sector procurement and current industry standard forms of construction contract conditions.

This position requires a driving license.

Working Pattern

Monday - Thursday 8:45am to 4:45pm (55 minutes unpaid break)

Friday 8:45am to 4:15pm (50 minutes unpaid break)

Flexitime

Five days in office, 5 days working from home pattern

A Degree or equivalent in a construction industry discipline, or a closely related subject is essential together with membership of the RICS or CABE.

Adopting a Hybrid work style, in line with Council Policy, you will work from home and our office base, Civic Centre, Motherwell.

You will be required to travel throughout the area of North Lanarkshire Council.

• Monday - Thursday: 8:45am - 4:45pm (including a 55 minute unpaid break)
• Friday: 8:45am - 4:15pm (including a 50 minute unpaid break)

What will you be doing as an Apprentice Property Maintenance Operative?  
Based in our Louth Programme team and working as an Apprentice Property Maintenance Operative (PMO) you will learn all about what it takes to make sure our customers’ homes are maintained to a high and safe standard. You will produce work of the highest quality while providing excellent service to our customers, clients, and your team. 
As part of this apprenticeship, you will learn a wide range of trade skills such as Carpentry, Plumbing, Plastering, Tiling, Decorating and minor Electrical work. The work will be varied and interesting and you will have the support of a mentor throughout your apprenticeship. 
At college, you will study the Property Maintenance Operative Apprenticeship standard at Level 2 by attending Lincoln College or similar provider one day a week, alongside learning and working with experienced operatives during the rest of the week. 
On successful completion of the Property Maintenance Operative Level 2 Apprenticeship, you will be able to apply for any related job vacancies within PPC. If you gain permanent employment with PPC you will continue to be supported in your learning and development. PPC has a strong track record of offering permanent jobs to its apprentices once they qualify.

• Grade 4 or above GCSE or equivalent in English would be desirable

Some things you need to know 
• The team is based in Louth and the surrounding area, so applicants need to live in this area 
• This is a Level 2 course lasting 2 years 
• You would work a 40-hour week working Monday to Friday 
• As you will be working in customer’s homes you will require a DBS check 
• Ideally you would need to hold a full driving licence, but this is not essential at this point, but the role is mobile
