To support this business transformation we are looking to recruit an Enterprise Architect to support and guide the business transformation by developing modern, innovative digital services to delight our business and lead the way in the digital evolution.
The Opportunity
We have a growing Enterprise and Solution Architecture team that are defining the future of the Nuclear Operations digital services. This is an exciting time to join and will gives the opportunity to help shape and define the future of our digital capabilities as our business transforms and grows.
The Nuclear Operations Enterprise Architect will be responsible for the definition and development of the IT and digital strategy and will bring creative, innovative and inspirational thought leadership to our digital future. This is a leadership role and our ideal candidate will be able to lead the digital agenda from the front, influencing our business to adopt digital services that create an amazing future. You will be comfortable developing strategies, supporting the definition and delivery of Nuclear Operations wide policies, principles, standards and best practice that will improve the Nuclear Operations business. You will be comfortable defining how innovative technologies can benefit our business and will be adept at bring a wide range of stakeholders on the digital journey.
As an Enterprise Architect, you will be part of an Enterprise and Solutions Architecture team defining the technology landscape, driving innovation and ensuring the future digital capabilities are transforming how our business works and operates. Our business is driven by data and is at the heart of our digital strategy. We are looking to strengthen our team in this domain and so an Information focused Enterprise Architect is a priority to support our team development.
This role is based at Gloucester Business Park, but will allow for some home and office working.

What you’ll be doing
In this role, your primary accountabilities will include:
- Play a significant part in the documentation and continual refresh of the Nuclear Operations IT strategy
- aligning IT to business capabilities. Work with key business stakeholders to align technology investments and innovation to the key business objectives and drivers.
- Driving a data centric strategy to transform our business bringing thought leadership and strategic direction to our growing data and analytics capabilities.
- Bring Information Architecture best practice to our design and architecture process
- Create exciting and engaging strategic plans, views and strategies which will be used to drive investment and change within our business
- Ensure the organisation's business processes and information flows are correctly modelled, and that the information architecture to support these is put in place, maintained up to date, aligned to the data management lifecycle and communicated to all levels of management.
- Build the Information Model to ensure it underpins the information management strategy and maximises value for Nuclear Operations;
- Where information is mastered,
- The interactions and flows of key information assets,
- How the provenance of information can be determined and demonstrated,
- Who owns information and hence the classification of the data,
- Where the greatest challenges lie, in terms of a single version of the truth.
- Support and guide Business Architects and Solution Architects to provide guidance, proposals and solution options that solve business challenges and needs
- Understand the current and future information needs of the business and translate these into services to be delivered
- Engage with EDF Group, Enterprise IT and a wide range of IT delivery partners to align the Nuclear Operations IT Strategies to the wider EDF Technology strategies and to ensure alignment to market trends
- Collaborate with the wider EDF UK and EDF Group Architecture community to share knowledge and best practice.
- In partnership with key stakeholders, across the business and IT, the Nuclear Operations Enterprise Architect will develop, maintain and support elements of the Nuclear Operations IT principles, standards and good practice documents i.e. the design guidance and patterns against which Nuclear Operations will design and deliver all IT solutions.
- Take the lead in managing Integration Governance within Nuclear Operations and ensuring common and consistent approaches are taken. They will also define the views and information in the Enterprise Architecture repository and where necessary populate this information.
- Act as a champion for IT Innovation within the Nuclear Operations business, effectively defining, owning and delivering the innovation agenda based on the Nuclear Operations IT and business strategies and focussing efforts when they can yield most benefit and focussing on establishing strong business relationships to facilitate this.
- Act as a point of reference for Integration to the Nuclear Operations IS Community and wider EDF Energy IT community; in particular, provide guidance on relevant architecture matters, new technology, industry trends and associated business enablers that will support business strategy.
- Manage, mentor and coach architects and designers as required.
- Provide technical assurance for large projects/programmes to ensure that solutions will meet the specified requirements. Where appropriate direct conceptual and logical designs and oversee detailed designs from a Nuclear Operations Enterprise Architecture point of view, i.e. ensure that designs comply with standards, IT strategy, and architectural blueprints.
- Engage at executive and senior leadership levels within Nuclear Operations to provide thought leadership and strategic guidance regarding IT strategy to ensure it can best support EDF Energy’s Nuclear Operations business.
Who you are
The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level or equivalent and/or be able to demonstrate significant experience in the energy or relevant sector. Preferably, you will have architectural design experience with appropriate training and/or qualification in solution design. You will be TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework) qualified or aware. This role demands both a thorough and broad knowledge of technologies and digital services but also real creative flair. The role requires that you are able to create innovative, engaging and compelling narratives around the future of digital in our organisation. The ability to communicate and enthuse stakeholders in the adoption of digital services is critical. Ideally, we are looking for candidates who have real world experience of establishing best practice EA services in to a forward thinking and transforming digital business. The role will offer the opportunity to establish a future and strategic EA practice so having knowledge and experience in this area will be essential.
This role is a great development opportunity so ideally you will possess some or all of these attributes; A broad, strategic outlook, with ability to demonstrate very good communication skills, capable of leading discussion on design issues, and delivering sound decisions, based upon consensus and the application of standards and best practise. We’re looking for strategic thinkers with experience of leadership within a complex organisation, and establishing technical credibility from the outset and creativity in the development of new approaches.
You should have sensitivity to business constraints, ambitions and operational objectives in area of assignment, experience of team working and co-operation and capable of delivering relevant project documentation, in line with standards. An excellent awareness of IT technology pertinent to their domain and interest in maintaining that awareness is ideal. The ability to work under pressure is key.
