Following on from the success of Hinkley Point C (HPC), the SZC Project is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk, which has obtained planning approval and Government financing support. The project has started construction and is now seeking private investment. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, which along with renewables, will support Britain to achieve Net Zero by 2050.
We have a fantastic opportunity for Senior Assistant Company Secretary.

The Role
The Senior Assistant Company Secretary will support the Company Secretary and senior leadership team in ensuring the highest standards of corporate governance are maintained. You will be responsible for providing expert legal and administrative support, assisting with board and committee meetings, and ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with significant experience in company secretarial duties, particularly within a large infrastructure or energy company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Corporate Governance: Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, and assist in the management of corporate governance processes.
- Board Support: Assist in the preparation, coordination, and documentation of board and committee meetings, including preparing agendas, circulating papers, taking minutes, and following up on actions.
- Statutory Compliance: Oversee the maintenance of statutory records, filings, and compliance with Companies Act and other legal requirements.
- Shareholder Relations: Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including shareholders, directors, and regulatory bodies.
- Risk Management: Assist in the development of risk management strategies and ensure risks are appropriately identified, assessed, and managed.
- Corporate Policies: Draft, review, and update corporate policies and governance documents to ensure they meet regulatory standards.
- Leadership: Mentor and manage junior staff within the company secretariat team, providing guidance and training as required.
Qualifications
The post holder is required to be qualified Governance Professional, ideally an Associate for the Corporate Governance Institute, or in their final year for qualification.
Knowledge & Experience
The post holder should have excellent working knowledge and experience in the following areas:
- Relevant qualification experience as a governance professional and qualified under the Corporate Governance Institute scheme.
- Experience working as part of a company secretarial function.
- Delivering a pro-active, business-focused service that anticipates risks and prevents problems.
- Well-rounded corporate governance experience and commercial acumen.
- Experience of working within a highly regulated sector.
Skills
- Fluency in English is required.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Excellent communication, coaching and presentation skills, with the ability to tailor communication style to suit a variety of audiences, including the ability to communicate complex concepts to a range of audiences both verbally and in writing.
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to analyse and interpret information quickly.
- Hands on and capable of managing and delivering competing priorities in a rapidly changing environment.
- Able to establish credibility and build relationships within business and external stakeholders.
- Flexible approach with a willingness to develop knowledge and skills in different areas of governance and provide support to other teams, as required.
