Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant Urological Surgeon based on the Newham and Whipps cross sites for Barts Health. We are looking for a Consultant Urological Surgeon to help with the overall workload of the Urology department. This post is to support the diagnostic and core urology work in the department.

Key duties will be supervising and running operating lists, acute and specialist clinics, diagnostics, on call cover, ward rounds, and care for patients on wards in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, including ward and specialist nursing teams. The unit is very active in research, education and audit and the post holder will be expected to fully participate in all the above activities.

The post holder is clinically responsible to the Clinical Director of the specialty you are applying for in the Operations Directorate and managerially accountable to the Chief Operating Officer for the trust. Thoracic surgery is currently delivered by a team of 5 full-time consultants, 6 registrars, and junior clinical fellows, with a separate thoracic surgery ward and high dependency unit.



We are looking for registrars who will be post-CCT in August 2024 with senior thoracic surgery experience who are motivated and enthusiastic and wish to develop a sub-specialty interest in robotic thoracic surgery. In addition to your clinical duties providing care to thoracic surgery patients, managing referrals and attending the operating theatre, you will also be attending regular multidisciplinary meetings, participating in the weekly educational programme.

In addition to this you will be expected to contribute to the departmental research program including into robotic surgery as the Thorax centre has the largest robotic thoracic surgery practice in the UK. Time will be given for training and professional development.

The Department of Plastic Surgery sits within the ECAT Division as part of Trauma, Orthopaedics and Plastics Directorate. The Department is based in the Royal London but provides a plastic surgery service to the peripheral hospitals and the Homerton Hospital Foundation Trust. These hospitals can become part of the appointee’s job plan as the Trust expands and develops its services. The unit currently consists of seventeen consultants specialising in Lower Limb reconstruction, Skin cancer, Hand surgery, Paediatrics, Breast reconstruction and Burns. Currently trauma clinical services are concentrated at the Royal London Hospital alongside elective plastic surgery.

Plastic Surgery has access to elective beds in the RLH on ward 12C that is shared with Orthopaedics. There are dedicated local and brachial block day surgery operating sessions at the RLH in the ACAD theatres. Emergency cases are admitted from an A&E based triage service, and there is a heavy emergency commitment to cases of trauma brought in by HEMS (1K+ cases per year). Excellent relationships exist with the other specialties concerned with the multi-injured patient, particularly Anaesthesia, Orthopaedics, Neurosurgery, General Surgery and Diagnostic Imaging.

All research and involvement in audits are welcomed at the department to further our delivery of care.

This fellow job has come up as part of the NICU expansion in which we have opened 45 cots to provide all levels of neonatal care at the Royal London Hospital. We are a tertiary centre and take referrals from all over the North East London region.

The posts will be for a period of 12 months with further extension depending upon the clinical performance

Training will be provided as appropriate for the individual in accordance with the syllabus for trainees in neonatal medicine following discussion with their educational supervisor. In general training opportunities occur in the context of:

Advance Training Fellow in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with a specialist interest in high-risk obstetrics and obstetric governance

The post-holder must be a senior clinical fellow with interests, clinical skills and knowledge in high-risk obstetrics. The primary clinical work area will be ambulatory obstetrics – high-risk maternity triage and the antenatal ward setting. The post offered is that of Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult Psychiatry (10PA), to join the excellent MDT on Thames Ward. This is one of three mixed gender adult psychiatric wards located within the Dennis Scott Unit, Edgware Community Hospital. Thames ward is embedded within the Hospital Services division. We are seeking an accredited Gynaecological Oncologist to join the Gynaecological Oncology team as a Locum Consultant Gynecological Oncologist as soon as possible, with a mutually agreed start date for a fixed six-month period.

The post will include an all-day operating list and 1:4 theatre list cover on two other days of the week and associated surgical clinics. It is expected that the post holder will operate independently with maximal surgical effort for women with advanced ovarain cancer and additionally be a skilled robotic gynaecology oncology surgeon. The appointee will form part of the on-call rota and will participate actively in the running of the busy gynaecological oncology in-patient and out-patient service.

This is a non-training position in the Department of Paediatric Surgery for a period of 12 months subject to a probationary period of 3 months. The responsibilities of the post holder are similar to one of our registrar training post covering General Surgery.

The middle grade team (Registrar level) comprises of 4 NTNs and 3-4 clinical fellows. The Fellow posts are fully funded by the Trust and do not have formal educational approval. This post allows the candidate to join a very busy centre offering exposure to neonatal surgery, GI surgery and urology, and Paediatric trauma. There are excellent opportunities to be involved in academic work in the several research projects being run in the dept.

It is one of the largest Paediatric Gastro-Surgery services in the UK, which is closely associated with the adult gastro- intestinal surgical dept and the GI physiology labs. The Paediatric Surgery dept comprises of 5 surgeons, two of whom will practice Paediatric Urology and three will provide the GI service, all will take part in the on call rota for neonates and other emergencies.
At present, Mr Phelps, Mr Cleeve and Mr Charlesworth are the Paediatric GI surgeons; they look after patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease jointly with the Paediatric gastroenterologists. They also provide a service for the children with Gastro-oesophageal Reflux or feeding problems requiring fundoplications and or gastrostomies/jejunostomies. The department of Adult Gastroenterology has an international reputation in the investigation of Motility Disorders and close collaboration exists with them. There are plans for the Paediatric Surgical Service to become more involved in the investigation and management of children with Motility Disorders. Mr Misra and Mrs Ashwini Joshi provide a Paediatric Urology service for the region.

Applications are invited for a Consultant post in the Department of Clinical Neurophysiology at Barts Health NHS Trust to commence from January 2025.

The post holder will provide EEG reporting for inpatients and outpatients, including adult and paediatric cases. The post holder will also perform EMGs for inpatients and outpatients using baseline and complex neurophysiology techniques, covering adult and paediatric cases. The post holder will be involved in departmental meetings and will provide teaching to neurophysiology registrar and healthcare technicians. They will also be involved in leading audit activity and a quality improvement projects, as well as pursuing other areas of personal academic interest

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate professional, excellent and efficient delivery of care. They will need to agree levels of activity and throughput in the outpatient departments with the Service Manager and Neurosciences Clinical Director.
