The post as an Clinical Fellow in General Surgery offers excellent opportunities for the successful candidate to develop laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgical skills in the fields of general surgery.

The general surgery on-call will allow the candidate to gain additional experience of the management of the acutely ill surgical patient under the supervision of the Consultant Surgeon. Separate sessions are allocated to the Emergency theatre to allow the candidate to gain experience with emergency laparoscopy and laparotomy.

The post-holder’s duties will be based primarily at Colchester Hospital, but their presence may from time to time be required in other parts of the Trust.

The post-holder will be expected to carry out ward rounds and are responsible for inpatient patient care with the consultant team. The post-holder will take part in the acute surgical on-call rota at Specialist registrar level for General Surgery.

Whilst this post will primarily involve training in general surgical procedures, there will be exposure to specialist colorectal/UGI surgeries as well as the opportunity arises. The post holder will also be exposed to basics of robotic surgery which includes simulation training and first assisting.

There will be the opportunity to be trained in upper and lower GI endoscopy depending on the previous experience of the candidate.

Teaching

The Department of Plastic Surgery sits within the ECAT Division as part of Trauma, Orthopaedics and Plastics Directorate. The Department is based in the Royal London but provides a plastic surgery service to the peripheral hospitals and the Homerton Hospital Foundation Trust. These hospitals can become part of the appointee’s job plan as the Trust expands and develops its services. The unit currently consists of seventeen consultants specialising in Lower Limb reconstruction, Skin cancer, Hand surgery, Paediatrics, Breast reconstruction and Burns. Currently trauma clinical services are concentrated at the Royal London Hospital alongside elective plastic surgery.

Plastic Surgery has access to elective beds in the RLH on ward 12C that is shared with Orthopaedics. There are dedicated local and brachial block day surgery operating sessions at the RLH in the ACAD theatres. Emergency cases are admitted from an A&E based triage service, and there is a heavy emergency commitment to cases of trauma brought in by HEMS (1K+ cases per year). Excellent relationships exist with the other specialties concerned with the multi-injured patient, particularly Anaesthesia, Orthopaedics, Neurosurgery, General Surgery and Diagnostic Imaging.

All research and involvement in audits are welcomed at the department to further our delivery of care.

This is a fixed term full time post for 12-months for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Medical Microbiology, to work within an evolving Infection Service based in the Department of Pathology at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LTHTR), based at Royal Preston Hospital.

The Medical Microbiology service includes: advice regarding appropriate specimens and investigations, interpretation of results, patient management including appropriate choice of antibiotics, preventive measures, and the preparation of policies, procedures and guidelines. This may be through responding to incoming telephone enquiries, regular attendance at ward rounds, and involvement in the management of individual patients on Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) requiring full clinical liaison in response to referrals or laboratory results.

You may be asked to participate in the provision of an out of hour’s service as outlined in the training programme and you will attend in regular clinical audit and in risk management relating to microbiology and infection control.

To participate in the teaching of medical students, laboratory staff, junior doctors, general practitioners, EHOs, nurses, and other health professionals, including professional supervision and management of junior medical staff, as appropriate.



You would be expected to keep up to date in terms of their knowledge and the skills and techniques relevant to the duties of the post and maintain registration with the General Medical Council.





The Trust is committed to patient safety and minimising the risk of spread of infection. The Trust has a multidisciplinary infection prevention control team (IPCT) which provides support to the clinical services to help reduce the risk of infection. The IPCT comprises infection control nurses, pharmacists and administrative support.

The Department is accredited for the training of BMS staff and is approved for the training of medically qualified Microbiologists.

We are looking to appoint a Clinical Teaching Fellow in Geriatric Medicine.

This is an ideal opportunity to work in a busy but well supported department with a team of highly motivated consultants and trainees. The successful applicants will gain experience across a wide variety of medical conditions and will have access to the full range of in-house educational opportunities afforded to other trainees.

These posts will be well suited to those looking to bridge the gap between core and speciality training in acute medicine and geriatric medicine or for trainees who simply wish to gain more experience in both these fields. Our department has a well- developed front door admissions avoidance service as well as integrated services such as care home and community geriatric medicine.

The successful applicants will be able to participate in the department’s teaching, audit, and educational activities. In addition, the department will be able to support exposure to other specialist clinics.

The clinical fellow will primarily be based on the geriatric medicine wards with responsibility for the ongoing care of patients on the 32-bedded ward. The exact pattern of working days will be decided with the successful applicants with the aim of providing as much cover and continuity as their resource allows. They will enable rapid discharge and provide timely review of patients under their care. The clinical fellow will be directly supervised by a senior trainee in addition to the ward consultant.



The post holder will participate in HSEP ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings. They will develop skills in identifying and managing frailty, delirium, and dementia. Working with the ward MDT and community teams they will develop person-centred plans for the management plans for in-patient care and post-discharge.

Responsibilities 1. Use laboratory computer systems to record patient specimens and provide clinical advice on sample selection and necessary laboratory tests for patient diagnosis and management. 2. Perform all sample processing procedures required in the laboratory. 3. Conduct HLA and HNA antibody screening and specification. 4. Carry out flow cytometric crossmatching. 5. Perform genotyping using molecular methodologies and assist in the maintenance and development of in-house genotyping as required. 6. Ensure the accuracy of patient test results entered into hospital, regional, and national computer systems by laboratory staff. 7. Validate and verify relevant laboratory tests. 8. Independently perform a wide range of specialised tests according to standard operation procedures (SOPs), analysing, interpreting, and reporting results. 9. Participate in internal and external quality assurance schemes (e.g. UK NEQAS for H&I) and collaborate with senior staff to act on results. 11.
