A Healthcare Science Associate is part of a clinical support team whose purpose is to provide timely and accurate high quality scientific information that will assist service users from the hospital and community, in the establishment of a clinical diagnosis and monitoring of patient treatment. The Healthcare Science Associate will use practical skills to carry out tasks associated with the pre-analytical preparation of specimens, analysis of a limited range of tests and post analytical duties. Operate, maintain and basic trouble shoot departmental analysers, in line with departmental SOPs. To undertake simple analytical procedures under guidance and maintain and operate laboratory equipment in accordance with departmental SOPs. To manually transcribe and record laboratory data, input to and manipulation of the laboratory computer system and derivation of worksheets for qualified staff. To receive requests for information by telephone and respond appropriately. To prepare and reconstitute reagents and control materials and other processes as required, recording stock levels, maintenance of instruments and equipment, and keeping appropriate records both manually and electronic. To manage the day to day departmental Quality Assurance by distributing, monitoring and resulting tests on all schemes. To co-ordinate distribution of Quality Assurance reports and assist Team Leaders in review. To manage Point of Care Testing (POCT) devices across the Trust, including training, audit and quality control. To work in compliance with local health and safety rules to ensure a safe working environment for yourself, colleagues and visitors. This work will develop new inhibitors of calcium channels as a neuroprotective strategy to protect vulnerable dopamine neurons in Parkinson’s working with induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived dopamine neurons generated from Parkinson’s patients.

Duties will include undertaking laboratory experiments; biochemistry, immunocytochemistry, cell and molecular biology; growth and differentiation of iPSC lines; interpretation of data; imaging analysis; and preparation of data for publication. You will have excellent practical experience of working with neuronal cell cultures and good knowledge of cellular models of neurodegenerative disease. The ability to innovate, trouble-shoot technical problems, be meticulous in practical work and in record keeping is essential.

QUALIFICATIONS

Researchers under the Programme should possess both mastery of their academic speciality, anddemonstrated practical experience producing and supporting high-quality open-source code throughcommunity engagement across multiple media. Candidates must have Bachelor's, Master's, Ph.D., oralternative qualifications in computer science, software engineering, (symbolic) artificial intelligence,computational linguistics, or formal methods. Fluency in multiple natural languages, and any experience with law, are a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Work done will be at the direction of the PI, and where relevant, the Industry Director and Centre Director.As the Programme is interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary by nature, you will be expected to convey yourdomain expertise and edify others (and vice versa) in as productive, constructive, and collaborative a manneras possible.

You may be asked to participate in the development of use cases and delivery of proof-of-concept prototypesfor government and industry partners in the areas of computable contracts and "rules as code". Experience inrequirements analysis and agile, iterative methodologies will be useful at this stage.The work of the team will be largely determined by these use cases and customers. We will work with multipleuse cases so that we can abstract across them and develop generalized, reusable infrastructure. We will workwith specific customers so we can build useful applications on top of that infrastructure.You will contribute to the design and development of open-source software written to serve those use cases.You will work as part of a team of research engineers, developers, and domain expertise and you will beexpected to actively participate in team meetings and text-based communications. You will be expected to beactive members of the applied research community, by validating and contributing to advances in computational law.
