The incumbent serves as a psychologist for the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP), within Psychology Service of the South Texas Veterans Health Care System. In this capacity, the incumbent offers treatment in the form of individual therapy, couple and family psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, psychological assessment, and provides consultation to other members of the team. Licensed Staff Psychologists practice at the Full Performance Level.
Duties may include but are not limited to:
-Provides a full range of diagnostic and evaluation services for patients enrolled in a BHIP, in the areas of general psychological evaluation of emotional and behavioral problems and suicide assessment; includes the use of psychological testing for patients in areas of special interest/expertise.
-Performs psychological evaluations for individuals with mental health and medical disorders for purposes of diagnostic clarification and treatment planning recommendations. These evaluations employ a comprehensive diagnostic interview, review of available records, collateral contact when available, as well as objective and cognitive tests when indicated.
-Provides a full range of psychological interventions consistent with training and expertise, with special emphasis on brief and evidence-based interventions when indicated and that are appropriate to the clinical setting. Provides services via telehealth when indicated and appropriate.
-Provides consultation services and serves as a resource for other professional personnel concerning the need for, evaluation of, and development of psychological services.
-Provides consultation and training in the identification and management of common mental and behavioral health disorders when indicated.
-Prepares and teaches seminars/workshops for STVHCS trainees/staff on topics within interest/competency areas.
-As assigned, conducts approved psychological research that supports the mission of STVHCS alone or in collaboration with other professionals in STVHCS or affiliated academic institutions.
-Adheres to operational policies and procedures for the treatment team.
-Facilitates liaisons with other health care programs in STVHCS in order to effectively coordinate services.
-Complies with national and local performance measures, including timely health care screening and completion of clinical reminders for all patients.
-Complies with all Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) documentation procedures, including timeliness standards for documentation and proper patient check out procedures (e.g., entering diagnostic and procedure codes).
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00a.m. to 4:30p.m.

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
