This Supervisory Transportation Security Officer position is located at Watertown Regional Airport (ATY), Transportation Security Administration, Department of Homeland Security (DHS). As a Supervisory Transportation Security Officer (STSO), you will be responsible for mitigating actual and potential threats against civil aviation and other transportation modes. You will also perform and supervise in your area of specialty, which may include Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) and Lead Transportation Security Officers (LTSOs) in the performance of all security functions related to the screening of people, property, and cargo through the use and application of procedures, techniques, and technology. In addition, you will make independent, security-based decisions using intelligence, critical thinking, experience, observation, and passenger engagement. Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

• Conducting and supervising subordinate employees in conducting pre-board security screening of persons, their carry-on and checked baggage/cargo.
• Overseeing screening checkpoint(s) and/or baggage screening operations on a day-to-day basis to include equipment, personnel, and the scheduling and rotation of personnel.
• Participating in the development of new policies and procedures, and recommending changes in policy and procedures based on observation of work, as required.
• Participating in the development of strategic planning initiatives, workforce planning, succession planning initiatives, and other reports and documents for TSA and superiors.
• Engaging in continuous development of critical thinking skills necessary to mitigate security threats by identifying, evaluating, and applying appropriate situational options and approaches.

• Developing incident information and reports for Law Enforcement Officers (LEOs) and superiors.
• Serving as a member of the National Screening Force.

• Resolves complaints from employees; refers group grievances and unresolved complaints to supervisor.
• Provides advice and information to service personnel, DOD civilian personnel and family members regarding weight authorizations, unaccompanied baggage allowances, shipping POV, mobile homes, weapons and special items requiring insurance coverage.

The Supervisory Mobility Transportation Specialist - Mobility Manager supervises/ensures the VTS and BT processes comply with regulatory guidance, while assuring program effectiveness. They serve as the Contracting Officer Representative for all transportation contracts, including common carrier, Special Mode, ambulance, and air ambulance. The incumbent is also responsible for working with state Veterans and Transportation Agencies and local transportation providers to establish expanded transportation networks to improve Veterans access to care.

Major duties include but are not limited to:

• Manages the Veterans Transportation Program at the facility which provides safe and reliable transportation to Veterans who require assistance traveling to and from VA health care facilities and authorized non-VA health care appointments within the Medical Center's catchment area;
• Orchestrates travel for eligible enrollees through mileage reimbursement and contracted travel modes;
• Plans, develops, evaluates, markets and directs key administrative activities in multiple programs related to transportation system for Veterans, active duty service members, Caregivers and others in metropolitan and rural/remote rural areas, especially those which are disabled, frail, elderly or receiving life dependent treatments (dialysis, chemo therapy, radiation therapy, etc.);

Typical assignments include:

• Reconciling items accurately including bill of lading, shipping documents, inventory lists, and property transfer reports.
