Role - Service and Repair Technician

Pay Rate - £18 - £25 per hour (dependent on level of experience needed)
Shift hours will be Dayshift hours as Monday - Thursday 08:00 - 16:45 and Friday 08:00 - 12:00

Location - Portsmouth

Candidate required for maintenance on manufacturing machines. Experience in environment preferred.
Purpose of the Job to Support, maintain and improve production equipment to maximise manufacturing availability.

Principal Responsibilities
-

• To maintain production equipment to ensure maximum uptime target of 95% availability.
• To promptly identify root cause of equipment failure and implement subsequent repair.
• To manage an existing Planned Maintenance system, perform tasks to predetermined schedule, identifying potential operator owned tasks to sustain process uptime & maximise capacity.
• To manage PM system & calibration of production test systems.
• To identify & ensure sufficient spares are available to provide adequate response time regarding component failure
• To specify and implement improvements to the production process or equipment to achieve cost, productivity or quality benefits.
• To ensure process, equipment and ergonomic risk assessments are completed where necessary.
  Ensuring timely completion of HSE actions
• To write technical documents to define procedures, including cell maintenance instructions including defining of TPM schedules
• To liaise with identified external partners/vendors regarding technical aspects of production equipment and spares.
• To design or detail necessary jigs and fixtures.
• Ensuring timely completion of Kaizen ideas

Education Required (academic and/or technical education)

• Literacy and Numeracy.
• A broad range of qualifications may be acceptable; however, it is envisaged that there should be a sound Engineering background with a demonstrable ability, ideally supported by a recognised Mechanical or Electrical apprenticeship. An ONC/HNC in an Engineering discipline would be advantageous.
• Computer literate - experience with MS Office
• Electrical installation qualification to a Minimum of 17th Edition desirable.

Work Experience Required (area and length of experience)

• A minimum of three years' experience in a medium to high volume production environment will be required.

Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC): Assists in the recognizing the cause of faulty equipment and assists making repairs on a variety of HVAC units as appropriate.

Electrical: Assists in recognizing and reporting electrical problems. Assists with repairs as appropriate.

Replaces fluorescent and incandescent ballasts, bulbs and tubes.

Carpentry: Assists in basic carpentry repairs such as repairing or replacing screens; window and door frames; molding and trim; and repair and replacement of drywall or similar products.

Painting: Assists in preparation of areas and standard coating methods such as brushing, rolling and spraying and ensure surfaces are fully coated, protected and free from drips and runs.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Carpentry
The incumbent uses skilled techniques to construct, install, repair, and modify wood and wood substitute structures and items requiring close tolerance fit and structural soundness. Typical work assignments include constructing and repairing a wide variety of structural items such as building frames, rafters, concrete forms, walls, staircases, door and window frames, interior and exterior trim, and miscellaneous items such as workbenches, counter tops, bookcases, equipment cabinets, computer consoles, and items requiring limited decorative trim and molding. The incumbent lays out and installs various modular furniture assemblies. The incumbent sets up and operates a wide variety of wood working machines and tools. The work also involves mixing, application, and finishing of plaster surfaces in the construction and repair of interior walls and ceilings. The incumbent performs new - plastering on all types of backgrounds such as metal, wood or gypsum lath, wallboard, and masonry surfaces, as well as repairs and patches plaster and stucco surfaces.

Masonry
Work also involves the maintenance, repair, alteration, and construction of exterior and interior surfaces and structures built of a variety of brick, block, and stone. The incumbent works from oral instructions, blueprints, work orders, and rough sketches. The incumbent plans and lays out the work to be done, selects the proper tools, determines materials to be used, and accomplishes the work in accordance with appropriate methods and accepted trade practices. The incumbent lays common and face brick, firebrick, cinder and cement block, glass block, terra cotta, and various artificial and natural stone in constructing and repairing such items as walls, walks, manholes, boilers, and catch basins. The incumbent lays whole brick in straight, horizontal rows, corners, and more complex curvatures for structures that may include large planters, stairwells and architectural features.

Painting
Paints surfaces by patching, sanding, dusting, and applying paint by brush, spray, or roller to interior or exterior surfaces. Determines the methods, techniques, devices, and materials that are best suited to the surface finish required to insure surfaces have a smooth textured and decorative appearance, for example glossy finish, flat finish, grained effect, or a finish that must meet specified thickness. Prepares surfaces by hand and power sanding, sand blasting, wire brushing, filling, shaping, and leveling with metal and synthetic resins. Mixes and applies pre-coating agents such as pickling and alkali compounds to remove scale, rust, dirt and old paint from surfaces so that coating materials will adhere properly leveling dents and scars. As a Surface Maintenance Mechanic (Title 32), WG-5801-11, you will perform the following duties:

• Performs maintenance, troubleshooting, and major repair on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical, and automotive vehicles. This may include self-propelled artillery, tracked cargo and personnel carriers, road graders, mobile cranes, front loaders, bulldozers, power shovels, tanks, tracked combat vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, semi-trailers, forklifts, tractors, and accessory equipment. Troubleshoots, repairs and/or overhauls, as a regular and recurring duty, a variety of the mechanically complex major systems to include internal combustion engines, turbine engines, automatic and non-automatic transmissions, heavy duty drive line systems, and hydraulic utility systems and controls, cross drive or similar multi-system transmissions and a variety of intricate fuel injection systems. • Conducts readiness and repair inspections on vehicles and associated equipment supported by the activity. Performs operational inspections and ensures vehicles and equipment are properly serviced, including brake adjustments, replacing hydraulic fluids, greasing, cleaning, etc., and performs other preventive maintenance operations as required. Inspects supported equipment prior to use during Inactive Duty Training (IDT) and Annual Training (AT), to ensure that it is functioning properly.
