Retail Finance Analyst (FTC 12 months)

Retail Finance Purpose

We have a brilliant opportunity to join our Retail Finance team as a Retail Finance Analyst.

The Retail Finance team forms part of a larger Commercial Finance team consisting of Commercial & Marketing, Healthcare Finance, Online & Distribution, Procurement and Property & Investments Finance.

The team is made up of 6 Finance Analysts and Management Accountants providing financial analysis and support to wide range of stakeholders including the Retail Operations Director and Store Operations team.

The team own the store running costs from a Finance perspective and act as valued business partners, ensuring that the store profitability analysis provided supports decision making.

We care about individual career development and we’re looking for someone who wants to grow with us. There will be an opportunity to enrol on an apprentice scheme where we will support you towards either CIMA, ACA or ACCA accreditation.

Job Purpose

This is a key role that has responsibility for providing financial information and analytical support to the Retail Operations team to enable them to deliver their company targets and business profitability. You will act as the finance buddy for the Retail Operations team helping them with queries, forecasting and budgeting.

This role also has responsibility relating to the Financial Management of the cost centres relating retail store operations and store variable costs.

Key Responsibilities

As part of month end processes in relation to the regional & retail store operation and store variable costs, you will own the posting of these costs, ensuring that there are robust controls in place and that all costs are accurately accounted for and Balance Sheet reconciliations are completed with a high degree of insight.
Finance Business Partner to Retail Operations teams, which involves answering ad-hoc queries, attending regular meetings and being a point of contact within the finance team.
Ownership of all Retail Finance Regular Reporting and Packs.
Support the Senior Retail Analyst with the delivery of the Company’s Retail KPI Bonus model.
Partner the Reporting Project Analyst with the development and launch of new automated Power BI reports.
Support the Senior Finance Analyst with the Quarterly Forecasting and the Annual Budgeting process for Retail Finance Costs.
Providing financial analysis and support to investment decisions including business case preparation and presentations to the investment committee for retail related contracts.
Substitute for the Senior Finance Analyst in their absence.
Ad-Hoc support for the beauty services business in providing analysis, completing reporting and month-end preparation.

Person Specification

Experience of working within a Retail environment preferable but not essential.
Strong communication and time management skills.
Ability to develop strong working relationships across the business including working with non-finance customers and third party providers.
Self-motivated, confident and enthusiastic.
Experience using excel.
Ability to work in a fast pace and dynamic environment.

We have a brilliant opportunity to join our Property & Investments Finance team as a Property Finance Analyst.

The Property & Investments Finance team forms part of a larger Commercial Finance team consisting of Commercial & Marketing, Healthcare Finance, Online & Distribution, Procurement and Retail Finance.

The team is made up of 7 Finance Analysts and Management Accountants providing financial analysis and support to the Property Director and the Property Leadership team.

The team own the Property running costs from a Finance perspective and act as valued business partners, ensuring that the analysis provided supports decision making.

The team produce Store Investment proposals including New Stores, Lease Renewals and Store Refits, working closely with the Property Function in securing approval for these proposals from the UK Investment Committee and subsequent approval from our Group Finance function based in Hong Kong.

Job Purpose

This is a key role within the Property and Investments Finance team that has the responsibility for the financial management of the Property Costs of Superdrug, c.800 Stores and working with the Senior Property Finance Analyst in improving the processes in these areas. You will also be involved with the management of the Rent costs for our sister company Savers, c.500 stores.

You will act as the Finance Business Partner for members of the Property Function, helping them with queries, forecasting and budgeting and providing them with information that enables them to deliver their company targets and business profitability.
Here's the exciting bit…a day includes
Property Costs
Develop a thorough understanding of all costs controlled by the Property Function, including, but not limited to Rent, Rates and Service Charges.
As part of month end processes, you will own the posting of certain Property Costs ensuring that there are robust controls in place, all costs are accurately accounted for and Balance Sheet reconciliations are completed with a high degree of insight.
Prepare flash reports prior to month end and participate in month end meetings to provide insight into variances where appropriate.
Support a selection of Property Cost Centres at month end
Responsible for updating Oracle Property Manager on a monthly basis for all changes in leases and assisting the Senior Finance Analyst with other tasks required for IFRS16 Reporting.
Work closely with the Senior Finance Analyst in establishing regular reporting and analysis of Property Costs.
Support the Senior Finance Analyst with the Quarterly Forecasting and the Annual Budgeting process for Property Costs.
Substitute for the Senior Finance Analyst in his/her absence.

Other:

Develop an understanding of all areas controlled by the Property function in order to support on adhoc analysis / help provide support to the wider Property and Investments Finance team where appropriate.

Bakkavor Desserts Devizes based in Wiltshire and specialises in making Baked/Bakery Desserts such as tarts, yum yums, doughnuts, pies, and pastries. The site employs over 550 people and is one of three factories that are part of the Bakkavor Desserts sector in the UK.

In this busy and exciting role, you will be responsible for the sites Financial Business Partnering, whilst working closely with operations teams.

Accountabilities:

Review of Factory Performance & Overhead costs


- Presenting the full financials on a weekly / monthly basis
- Attending daily factory performance reviews
- Providing analysis of key drivers in factory performance results for both past, present & future
- Initiating monthly overhead cost centre reviews with cost centre managers


Cost Ownership


- Working alongside Development & Commercial teams in continuous improvement discussions
- Ensuring accurate costing of products to enable clear informed commercial decision making
- Ensuring the Management accounts team maintain and update the Business ERP system in a timely and accurate manner


Team & Direct Management


- Managing the management accounting team
- Mentoring, developing & guiding the Management Accounts team to drive consistent reporting
- Working alongside the Financial Reporting & Control (R&C) team to ensure we present and review information provided with the appropriate managers
- Providing full cover for the Financial Controller (operations) where needed


Capital Planning and Review


- Supporting planning and reviews of Capital & Non-Capital plans and projects
- Tracking live projects, specifically any payback & profit improvement projects and ensuring delivery of savings


Rolling forecast


- Creating performance forecasts for the quarterly planning periods as well as weekly short-term rolling forecasts, engaging key stakeholders in the process
- Contributing to the creation of yearly updates for performance standards
- ensuring commercially accurate costings
- Creating forecasts for business overhead and labour expenses


Other Ad hoc Tasks


- Driving the agenda of ensuring we use Redzone Labour reporting
- Contributing to decision making in Kaizen events on improving elements such as factory waste, changeover times / frequency etc
- Supporting checking costings for existing & new product development (EPD/NPD) products
- Setting up & maintaining Opportunity & Risk trackers for all associated costs at the sites
