Logistics Manager
North Lincolnshire
Full time, 40 hours per week.
Salary: £40,000.00 plus £4200.00 on call allowance, plus Serco Benefits.
Main purpose:
Reporting to the Assistant Director Operations, the Logistics Manager is responsible for the daily operation of the Secure Logistics function, including any works or projects being undertaken on or off site.
The post holder is required to work closely with our customer base, to ensure we deliver a reliable chain of communication into the business, that reacts to their requirements in a timely and efficient manner.
The post holder will be the first line manager for all Logistics Operatives and Logistics Controllers based at our operating site and will be required to compose and deliver staff appraisals, manage team expenses, process overtime, and influence positive team engagement.
The role is responsible for the management of our courier and warehouse operations, allocating duties to responsible persons and ensuring all customer requirements are met within Service Level Agreements. Also controlling the operational diary for the service.
Being the primary point of contact for certain internal and external communications, the post holder must be able to communicate in an effective and polite manner. In addition, the post holder is responsible for drafting accurate management reporting data for the Senior Management Team.
Additional duties include, but are not restricted to, health and safety compliance both at our operating site and for any remote workers, and site security (with specific responsibility for drafting a call out roster to react to alarm activations).
If required, the post holder will be responsible for acting up for the Assistant Director Operations, on all operational matters also and attending internal and some external meetings as required. The post holder will become a Subject Matter Expert and will be called upon to assist the Senior Management Team with this information.
The post holder will be required to undertake any projects as directed by the Senior Management Team.
Serco is committed to delivering Operational Excellence across all our contracts and the post holder will be required to have a yellow belt, or to engage in the Operational Excellence training program within six months of taking post.
The post holder will be required to be part of an on all call roster on a one in four basis, to respond to alarm activations out of hours, and is responsible for the drafting of the annual on call roster.
The post holder must be able to attain and retain HM Government Enhanced NSV (SC) security clearance.
Main accountabilities:
- Responsible for the day to day running of the Secure Logistics Operation on behalf of the Senior Management Team
- Accurate logging, processing, updating, and maintaining of work requests using the dedicated software platform.
- Software administrator for the internal IT Asset Management System.
- Primary point of contact for certain Secure Logistics Operations, both internal and external.
- Scheduling of resources within the operation, to ensure all service requests are completed within Service Level Agreements and dealing with any issues that may arise as a result of delivering service, escalating to the Senior Management Team where necessary.
- Provision of accurate comprehensive monthly reporting data for the operation.
- Responsible for accurate and timely calculation and reporting of monthly overtime worked.
- Ensuring the service is delivered in line with comprehensive security process.
- Liaison with other Serco departments to deliver or receive service as directed by the Senior Management Team.
- First Line Management for nominated team members, including the composition and delivery of staff appraisals.
- Primary point of contact for IT issues at site and raising service calls with the Serco service desk on behalf of the team.
- Required to provide out of hours cover to respond to alarm activations as part of a set roster with other team members.
- Attending internal or external meetings as directed by the Senior Management Team.
- Purchasing for the Secure Logistics Operation using our Guided Buying SAP system and holding/being a ‘P-card’ buyer.
- Annual attendance at every primary client site as a ‘ride along’ with the Logistics Operative team to ensure a comprehensive understanding of issues encountered by the team and to enhance client relationships.
- Management of the local risk register and escalating to the Senior Management Team where necessary.
- Operational Excellence Yellow Belt qualified within six months of taking post.
- Undertake projects as directed by the Senior Management Team.
- Required to review operational processes to ensure they are fit for purpose.
- Primary chair for Data Protection Champion on the contract.
- Act as a primary operational contact in a business continuity situation.
- Any other duties commensurate with the role, which will assist with the successful delivery of the contracts.
- The post holder will be required to take deconflicting annual leave with the Assistant Director Operations.
- Provide cover to act up for the Assistant Director Operations, as required.
What you will need for the role:
- Must be IT literate, with a good demonstrable working knowledge of MS Office 365, including Outlook, Word and especially Excel, as well as being able to use the internal asset management system (for which training will be provided).
- A demonstratable understanding of the UK Domestic driver (UK) regulations. (for which training will be provided).
- A working understanding of warehousing process would be preferable.
- Experienced in asset management and associated auditing processes.
- Forklift (Counterbalance and Reach) – desirable but not essential, as training will be provided.
- Will be required to undertake first aid training and act as site first aider.
- Will be required to undertake fire marshal training and act as site fire marshal.
Additional features of the role:
- Candidates must be prepared to attain and retain security clearance to HM Government NSV (SC) enhanced level.
- A current, clean UK driving licence is required.
- The role is very process driven and the post holder will be required to comply with all Serco global and local policies.
