The Biological Technician monitors shorebirds and sea turtles and implements management measures to ensure these species are protected. Shorebird species addressed include federal and state protected species such as piping plovers, Wilson's plovers, least terns, American oystercatchers, and red knots. Sea turtle species addressed include federal and state protected species such as loggerheads, greens, Kemp's ridleys, and leatherbacks. Duties include: ensuring monitoring and management measures meet the requirements of federal and state endangered species laws, federal and state management guidelines, park policies, protocols, and guidelines; Conducts surveys of endangered plant species such as the sea beach amaranth; Identify and report signs of mammalian predators in breeding habitats; Use GIS and GPS to collect field data for use in geo processing; Use a microcomputer for data entry; Assist with drafting educational information for public release; Coordinating with law enforcement staff regarding speciesmanagement actions. The Co-Centre brings together an academic team from 17 research institutions across all 3 jurisdictions. The vision of the Co-Centre is to develop innovative and transformative solutions to transition our food systems to become more resilient and sustainable through a multi and interdisciplinary programme of basic and applied research. The Co-Centre research is structured as Platforms, demonstrator projects and spokes which include targeted projects which are funded wholly or in part by industry. A platform dedicated to Nutrition and Health will provide evidence-based data to encourage the development, acceptance, and uptake of healthy diets from sustainable sources (HDSS) across all population groups.

This role will support Professor Louise Dye to conduct a programme of research within this platform which seeks to understand and ensure equitable access to breakfast provision and intake in children and adolescents across the Island of Ireland. This research will support the transition to HDSS and address micronutrient deficiencies.

THE ROLE

Join Driscoll’s Australia in this exciting newly created role, you will be at the forefront of cutting-edge research, supporting the development and execution of projects in new genetic deployment and special projects across all berry categories. This is your chance to showcase your technical prowess in growing techniques, plant types, and genetics, as you coordinate and roll out on-farm and Test Plot trials.

Reporting directly to the Applied Research Manager (ARM), you will be a key player in providing support and expertise for local applied research projects. This opportunity offers a platform for you to not only demonstrate your skills but also contribute significantly to the advancement of agricultural research in the berry industry.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

Overseeing on farm trials and the reporting of trials within the region
Conduct research data collection and production of technical reports
Trial Analysis – growing new genetics and the deployment of new genetics
Identify continuous improvement opportunities and develop pragmatic solutions
Assist ARM in the identification of new plant varietal types, sustainability trials, technology efficiencies and specifications to meet local production requirements and needs
Perform regular site visits and ensure accurate experimental processes are in place


SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

To be considered for this role, applicants will need to demonstrate capabilities in the following:

Tertiary qualifications in Agricultural Science or related field
Previous experience in agricultural research roles
Proficiency in Microsoft Suite
Proven stakeholder management experience
Demonstrated agronomic knowledge from previous work or studies
Ability to travel interstate and internationally when required
Flexibility with occasional meetings outside of traditional working hours (for global R&D meetings)
