Your new role
You will be joining a prestigious research group working with some of the leading scientists in the genetics field carrying out research work to identify new approaches to tackle cancer.
Main responsibilities will include:

• Lead innovative research in molecular biology to uncover fundamental mechanisms related to genetic and protein functions in cancer.
• Investigate interactions between modified bases and proteins, focusing on their impact on genome functions like transcription and chromatin organisation.
• Develop new techniques to study the dynamics of modified bases and their binding proteins, utilising chemical and genetic approaches.
• Analyse genetic/genomic and other omics data sets to provide insights and use these to design future experiments.
• Explore genetic targets for synthetic lethality opportunities in cancer.
• Manage your own research projects while collaborating with others, ensuring meticulous record-keeping and resource management.
• Share your findings through presentations and publications, and help to mentor PhD students.

What you'll need to succeed
As well as strong communication and organisational skills, you should have:

• A PhD (or be nearing completion) in molecular biology, biochemistry, cancer genomics, or related fields, or significant equivalent experience
• Proficiency in molecular biology techniques, including RNA/DNA analysis, PCR, protein analysis, and western blotting.
• Advanced cloning skills, with experience in genetic engineering, vector construction, and CRISPR/Cas9 systems.
• Expertise in recombinant protein design and expression, utilising systems like E. coli, along with purification methods such as FPLC and mass spectrometry.
• Familiarity with genomic technologies like ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, and single-cell methods, preferably within oncology research, though this is not essential.

It would be an advantage to have good data analysis skills and experience using programming / scripting languages such as Python and/or R, along with tools like MATLAB and Bioconductor, however training can be provided.

This Graduate Science Teaching Assistant role will see the successful candidate joining a supportive Science department and supporting the teaching and learning across KS3 and KS4. The Research & Information Team (R&I) provides information resources and research and enquiry services for Members of Parliament, their staff and other Parliamentary colleagues. It is composed of the House of Commons Library and the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST).

The Research Information Service (RIS) is part of the Library Services directorate within the House of Commons Library. It provides a range of information services to support the Library's eight research teams and POST. This includes the selection of information resources, provision of current awareness reports, training and support on the discovery and use of information tools and resources, reference enquiries, literature searching and bibliographic assistance for the production of briefings and publications.

This vital role oversees the daily work of a team of embedded research librarians who work with researchers to ensure they have access to the information needed to support a thriving Parliamentary democracy.

The Role

Comprising around twenty people, the Research Information Service is a team of highly skilled information professionals who connect the wider Research and Information research community with the resources (physical, digital and human) they need to complete their work. Line management and a coaching approach are essential to this role. The postholder will be responsible for the direct line management of a group of Research Librarians in addition to deputising for the Head of Service in their absence.

With support completion of analysis of quantitative and qualitative data from the study. Support the recruitment, data monitoring, data collection, data entry and data analysis. Co-lead on reports, publications, and abstracts and orally present at conferences, and publications. Support the completion of all phases of the project. Maintain a database/record of data collection conducted and respondents contact details to ensure databases are maintained efficiently and accurately. Undertake any training relevant to the role, including safeguarding and data protection training. Ensure the security and confidentiality of data. Support the team in seeking relevant literature, summarising research and drafting papers for publication under the supervision of senior team members. Prepare reports on progress of data collection and undertake administrative tasks as needed. Organise, attend and present progress at project steering group, and team meetings. Prioritising workload in discussion with the team. What you will do:

You will be expected to:

• Take a leadership role and drive statistical thinking in cross-functional team projects, within an international environment
• Contribute to strategic planning and quantitative decision making in early clinical development programmes
• Lead the delivery and oversight on drug project(s) and/or studies to time, quality and standards, including partnering with CROs and with Programming
• Participate in applying, adapting and/or developing statistical methodology
• Contribute to development of new procedures and standards to increase quality, efficiency, and effectiveness
  

Depending on your experience, the role may also include:

• Interactions to influence key stakeholders and governance
• Acting as a technical expert in interactions with external providers and collaborators
• Mentoring and coaching junior staff and supporting them with education and training in statistics
• Working with regulatory agencies, e.g. attending meetings, answering questions

Essential in the role:

• MSc/PhD in Statistics or Mathematics (containing a substantial statistical component) with experience in pharma/healthcare or other relevant area
• Knowledge of the technical and regulatory requirements related to the role
• Leadership capabilities to be able to lead and direct project work
• Experience of data analysis and interpretation in a relevant area
• Strong knowledge of programming in R and/or SAS
• Excellent written and spoken English. Excellent communication skills (including communicating with non-statisticians) and ability to build strong relationships
• Excellent collaboration skills required - the energy to work across global & functional boundaries, both internally and externally
• Ability to apply statistical expertise to complex problems, problem solving and quality focus

Desirable in the role, dependent on experience:

• Experience of programme and study design
• Experience in the relevant therapeutic area
• Experience of regulatory interactions
