SUMMARY
Strategic Communication Support Specialist II is responsible for assisting the DCSC in the planning, development, and implementation of communication products and strategies to promote awareness and understanding of the Defense Health Agency and initiatives. Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to convey accurate and compelling information about Agency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Supports the creation and execution of public affairs and strategic communications campaigns for the DCSC.
Develops editorial calendars and conduct landscape research to inform content plans that integrate client strategies.
Creates engaging written, graphic, and multimedia content, supported by subject specialists like graphic designers and videographers.
Drafts talking points, speeches, presentations, etc.
Drafts blogs, op eds, statements, and social media posts
Coordinates media engagements and prepare Agency leadership for interviews.
Builds and maintains client relationships.
Reviews, edits, and approves written, graphic, and multimedia content.
Works collaboratively and proactively across client and internal teams

Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.
Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.
Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and co-workers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and Human Resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions as the best of own ability.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree and five to seven (5-7) years professional experience required. Previous agency or consulting experience a plus.
CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATION
Must possess and maintain a current Secret security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
JOB SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Experience supporting the Department of Defense in the same or similar capacity preferred; experience and understanding of the Military Health System and DHA is highly desired.
Excellent writing and communications skills, including social media.
Strong research skills.
Attention to detail in editing and formatting documents and in preparing products and emails for clients.
Experience in public affairs or public policy communications, and a working knowledge of U.S. politics, elections, the Hill, and media relations (pitching reporters, framing stories, press releases, media markets, etc.).
Must be a self-starter able to work both in teams and independently and be unafraid to ask for help or clarification when needed.
Able to interact professionally with people at all levels of client and other organizations.
Must be able to balance and prioritize multiple tasks and be flexible to work with different kinds of clients and change focus in rapid-response situations.
Work well under the pressure associated with multiple short-notice deadlines.
Must be very comfortable with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), collaborative tools (MS Teams, SharePoint, etc.).
Knowledge of media tools (Meltwater, Cision, etc.) and social media tools (Hootsuite, Sprout Social, etc.) is a plus.
Some experience with design programs (Adobe, Canva, Piktochart, etc.) and/or video tools (iMovie, Adobe Premiere, etc.) is a plus.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Excellent command of the English language. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
