• Performs work involved in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of installed mechanical equipment and control systems utilized in the provision of basic utility services as required by the activity assigned to accomplish this mission.
• Installs, maintains, and modifies utility connections and processing equipment, as required. Uses specialized diagnostic and test instruments compatible with the various manufacturer's equipment.
• Inspects, troubleshoots, repairs and replaces mess hall equipment, refrigerated and display storage units, food service equipment, dishwasher and disposal units. Inspects, repairs, and replaces signs, traffic control devices and guardrails.
• Operates backhoes, front end loaders, dump trucks, graders and sanders to push, plow and remove snow and ice from roadways and parking lots.
• Clears and opens channel ditches of debris.

• Analyze production, cost, and personnel utilization records to evaluate progress of work and to control or reduce costs.
• Coordinate work operations as needed with the supervisors of other organizations and functions.

As a Surface Maintenance Mechanic, WG-5801-11, you will:

Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and major repair on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical, and automotive vehicles.

Reassemble engines and other systems, and adjusts, tests, and reinstalls in vehicles and equipment as necessary.

Provide technical guidance and specialized team leadership to lower grade employees within the team.

Assist lower grade mechanics in performing major repair work on interconnected complex systems such as electrical, air and hydraulic systems, complex state of the art electrical and electronic systems that use specialized diagnostic equipment to identify problems, complex fuel injection systems and other similar complex systems.

Perform operational inspections and ensures vehicles and equipment are properly serviced, including brake adjustments, replacing hydraulic fluids, greasing, cleaning, etc., and performs other preventive maintenance operations as required.

Troubleshoot equipment with a variety of the mechanically complex major systems and diagnoses difficult performance problems and the cause of mechanical failures by means of visual and auditory checks.

Use test equipment such as engine analyzers, compression testers, voltmeters, ohmmeters, pressure gauges and computer diagnostic tools.

Conduct readiness and repair inspections on vehicles and associated equipment supported by the activity.

Perform electrical repairs on complex state of the art electrical and electronic systems requiring extensive training on specialized diagnostic equipment to identify problems.

• Creates, update and adjust PM scheduling across Facilities CMMS.

• Supports Life Cycle Asset Management implementation by:

• Updating Asset Condition, lifetime, spare parts availability, acquisition costs.

• Ensures LoTo procedures are properly linked to facilities assets’.

• Verifies accuracy of data in both Archibus and RAM.

• Assists as needed in developing a digital system to generate maintenance records.

• Conducts randomly monthly audits to confirm assets’ location and data integrity 

• Performs other similar duties as assigned.

• Other duties as assigned by management.

Experience

• Diploma – Some university/college training and/or college degree.

• 3 years’ experience in data entry, transcription, or quality control.  Experience with CMMS.

• Regulated industry experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Expected

• Ability to work with relevant computer software packages, including spreadsheets and word-processing packages (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word), is essential.

• Knowledge of at least one CMMS  (e.g., RAM, Archibus, SAP, etc.).

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work under time pressure while maintaining high standards of precision and data quality.
