The Opportunity

The role of Information Governance and Transparency is to deliver effective and high- quality information governance, data protection and sharing, records management and information rights advice, to manage and report on data breaches, undertake impact assessments, respond to complaints, and handle access to information requests.

The Information Governance Officer operates at the core of the council and requires tact, they also need to have good interpersonal skills. The role is integral to the successful delivery of services to our traded information governance service, ensuring our customers remain compliant under the relevant legislation.

The role will be required to provide legislative guidance and advice to customers, including schools and other public bodies, partners, and other stakeholders. Therefore, the ability to be diplomatic and understand the context of the situation is crucial to the success of this role.

Accountabilities

• Responsible for providing Information Governance advice and guidance to officers, customers, partners and others on the current data protection and information legislation.
• Carries out compliance audits for customers, providing audit recommendations and action plan.
• Ensures all information rights requests are dealt with in an efficient and timely manner within legislative timescales, which may include reading, redacting, and preparing responses.
• Maintains and updates the CRM with business activities.
• Supports and advises on the investigation of data breaches, preparing reports and issuing guidance, as necessary.

• Support us in building new L&D Teams area so all files etc in one place for new structure!
• Learning 'cataloguing' - Streamline topics into new categories / capabilities.
• Support deactivation of old content so most up to dates and used content is available.
• Support Learning Technology Consultant in building new pages and removal of 'Hubs' to produce more affective user journey for learners ready for LearnFest.
• Help with LearnFest/Learning campaigns.

The Experience You Will Bring

• Efficient or can learn quickly in MS Office tools including - Stream, insights, sway, forms, Clipchamp, utilising content creating tools at ECC.
• Excited about learning technology, not afraid to try new ways of doing things e.g., Power automation, AI, HTML.
• Experience of working on an LMS would be great - but training on cornerstone offered.
• This role is more than likely receive some learner frustrations, so good communication s kills, resilience, empathy is needed. Don't tend to hear when it's made impact, so would advocate role to help with stalls and meeting the teams more especially to grow network when working in a hybrid set up!
• Eye for detail and ready to work on a given task repeatedly, to produce a solution. Some tasks will be repetitive but worth it in the end!
• ability to understand organisation's requirement, public sector is complex but good onboarding will be needed so they understand the different hats we wear to support different learners e.g., from recycle team, to lawyers to social workers.

Are you a sharp and engaged technology specialist ready for a new challenge?

As a Technology Specialist - Applications, you will be a SME for the delivery of the business-as-usual for the Applications function at Thurrock Council, a Local Authority driving an ambitious digital agenda, and will be a key in ensuring that our digital framework is appropriate and efficient.

About the Role:
Thurrock Council is developing, redefining, and transforming its digital services in line with technological advances. We are delivering a diverse and complex toolkit of technologies to deliver automation and efficiencies to end users. We are on a journey of delivering Microsoft 365, Power Platform and RPA alongside the usual mix Local Authority line of Service Applications and we have an energetic team who are embarking on a journey to deliver IT excellence to the council.

You will be technically proficient and proven in an array of technologies, software, platforms, languages, and utilities, highly motivated and continually strive to develop and improve both yourself and the service you provide. In addition, you will:
- Work collaboratively across the different services
- Have a good attention to detail be able to define and improve standards and processes.
- Have a strong working knowledge of service support, working to SLA's and experience of working in an ITIL environment would be an advantage.
