Job Description:
The Performance Technology Specialist at Boston Conservatory at Berklee executes the critical recording, editing, streaming, and other performance support elements of all BCB performances. The Specialist coordinates all logistical and technical details for assigned performances, trains student and non-student workers, attends and supports departmental events, and contribute to the future planning for the Performance Technology team.
As part of the Performance Services department, the BCB Performance Technology Specialist reports to the Assistant Director of Concert Services; collaborates closely with the Director of Performance Services; coordinates directly with faculty, staff, students, student workers and non-student workers; and supports the training and learning experience of hourly student workers.
● Provide critical support in streaming, editing, recording, setups, and more for Conservatory performances and events
● Arrange for and set all P.A. systems, projectors, and additional equipment as needed for assigned projects
● Proactively engage in frequent and robust communications with all event stakeholders on performance technology logistics, troubleshooting and opportunities for new ideas
● Support worker training activities and materials in audio and video recording, PA set-up, and streaming technologies
● Coordinate and maintain digital archives, encoding, storage and distributing
● Coordinate processing, editing, and distributing of videos of performances and special events for archival and promotional purposes
● Support the installation, testing and repairs of A/V equipment and integrated support systems; and continually monitor systems for ongoing and new issues; troubleshoot on-site/remotely as needed.
● Advise Assistant Director of Concert Services and Director of Performance Services in planning for future equipment needs and opportunities
● Support Assistant Director of Concert Services in partnering with Berklee counterparts to explore and develop integration possibilities for performance support
● Coordinate with External Relations to support short marketing videos for promotion and recruitment
● Collaborate with Assistant Director of Concert Services and Director of Performance Services to envision and implement new and innovative systems; formats; methods of production, documentation and dissemination; etc to continuously expand how Conservatory performances are produced, captured and shared
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
● Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience with 1 - 3 years of relevant work experience
● Proficiency in Mac operating systems
● Experience with the Google Suite platform
● Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Adobe Premiere and Media Encoder
● Experience with local area networks and shared LANs
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
● Understanding of video work-flow, professional camera operation and streaming technologies
● Knowledge of digital and analog audio mixers
● Knowledge of video projection systems
● Knowledge of current best practices in audio and video recording of live performances
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
● Experience in supervising student workers a plus
● Experience in higher education and performing arts a plus
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Student hourly workers
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
● Indoor environments, some with low light: stages, backstage areas, dressing rooms, classrooms, storage spaces, closets
● Seated and standing positions
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, ETC:
● Nights and weekends required
● Must be able to lift 40 pounds
