Stirling Council are looking for an Environmental Health Officer to contribute to the delivery of an effective, reliable and customer focused Regulatory Service.

The role is within our Public Health and Pollution Control Team and the successful candidate will carry out investigations and undertake an enforcement role as an Officer in terms of all relevant legislation.

Stirling Council are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, self-motivated Environmental Health Officer who can accept and tackle demanding goals to ensure effective service delivery.

The successful candidate will be based within our Food, Health & Safety team and must be able to meet the qualification and competency requirements detailed in the Food Law Code of Practice (Scotland) in respect of official controls for food law.

Applicants must hold the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS) Diploma in Environmental Health.

Applications will be accepted from Students/Graduate Trainee EHO intending to sit their professional examinations at the REHIS diet in 2024.

Subject to your qualifications you will be responsible for undertaking food law inspections, health and safety inspections, accident investigations, dealing with a range of complaints including food complaints, infectious disease surveillance, responding to licensing consultations and issuing export health certificates.

You will be able to demonstrate excellent computer skills and have the ability to organise your workload in an effective and productive way.

The ability to travel throughout the Stirling Council area is essential. A council vehicle will be provided.

Job Description

Mental Health Mentor
£32,040 - £33,763 (pro-rata)
35 hours per week, term time (accrued holidays will be pre-allocated to non term time periods)
Based at Stirling Campus (some cross campus work will be required)
Fixed term to March 2025

You will support students referred to the service on a one to one basis. You will support students who are experiencing moderate to high levels of poor mental health or have a diagnosed mental health condition and the emphasis of this service will be around supporting students to sustain and achieve at college while developing the personal resilience skills and capacity building to navigate life after college, in a mental health context. You will also be involved in the delivery of workshops to class groups promoting positive mental health and wellbeing strategies, and building resilience.

With an HNC (or equivalent) in an appropriate subject, or significant relevant experience in the specialist area, you will have experience supporting service users with their mental health, the skills to deploy various approaches to supporting our students with their mental health and, ideally, an understanding of supporting mental health in an education context.

DUTIES

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

• Previous Health and Safety related experience is preferred

• NEBOSH certification is preferred, but not essential

• Good time management skills with the ability to work to deadlines

• Ability to utilise a range of IT applications, including MS office, MS Teams

• Demonstrable aptitude to learn new health and safety software systems

• Ability to engage positively with front line employees to influence positive behaviour
